    @rob4092xx Has to be in S mode for the shift sense to activate. Going back to D will disengage the device.

    SS mapping only works once you shift it from D to S.

    Others answered your question but maybe an explanation on how it works will make it more clear.

    The shift sense is basically being plugged in to the S mode controller and the car. Then it pretends to be you and does all of the shifting automatically.

    How does it know when to shift?

    The truck is constantly sending out data to the OBD2 port. The SS listens for engine and transmission data and shifts when it needs to.

    So, it only works in S, since it's plugged in as a middle man there. In D you are still going through the normal Toyota shifting controller.

    The shifter needs to be in "S" mode for the shiftsense pro to take over .. Pretty obvious if you read the FAQ on his website .

    Installed the "new" chip today. Was completely painless. Will test it out tomorrow. So far with about 2k miles using the SSP, it's changed the truck for me. My MPGs are way higher now regardless of the kit installed on the truck. I was mid 14's before and now I regularly see mid 17's. It still has a lot to do with driving style, elevation, and wind, but all in all, it's a marked improvement for my driving style.

    Edit: being in Texas, I see 75, 80, and 85 mph speed limits. When it does hit 6th gear, it feels right. MPGs take a hit at any speed over 75 in my experience

    hey guys, trying to read the website and through all these posts. If you are at a light or need to punch it to merge on the highway, say peddle floored, does this may any difference or no? What are the 0-60 times vs stock?

    I received my updated chip early last week but was out of town and haven't take the 10 minutes to put it in. But I know I'll be happy with it. The original was very noticeable in a good way. Just about anything is better than stock, unfortunately. The OP at ShiftSense listens! His company is trying to improve a not so great shifting experience on a stock 3.5 with auto tranny. It's worth the money in my opinion. It not a turbo charger, it doesn't physically make more power but it does make it feel almost as if it does. The Shift points are GREATLY improved. Maybe not like everyone wants, I mean there are 31 flavors of ice cream and everyone wants something a little different. But this device will be liked by most buyers. In my stock truck without SS, on the freeway driving 65 an fairly flat road, it's constantly shifting from 6th to 5th and back again. At first I didn't understand why SS wouldn't shift into 6th. Well it does in the upper-mid 70 mph. But at 65 in 5th gear, it's actually the sweat spot for best engine performance/economy. 6th gear at 65 is just too high and lugs the engine. The slightest press on the pedal and it drops to 5th. But not with SS. It's not 100% perfect for 100% of the people, but most will like it very much. I'm just a very satisfied customer. I'm not associated with them at all.

    Without SS, shoving pedal to floor already Shifts not too bad. But you can't drive around all the time with it floored. If your driving 40, you won't be lugging the engine in 6th gear. The RPMs will be right where you need them if you want to pass someone or need the RPMs to get moving without waiting for it to shift FROM 6th down to the proper gear. It's not going to give to any more power, but it seem like it because the shift points are better. Hope that helps.

    @dcz108 Question:
    Read the FAQ, and understand that the unit will cancel out in 4LO, but what about 4HIGH, and with and without traction control on. Will the unit still function, and is it advisable to use in off road situations?
    Thanks in advance.

    At WOT it revs higher and faster. Higher revs put it in a good RPM for the next gear. Just keeps pulling, without the funky plateaus. I haven't had any desire to use ECT since I installed mine.
    I think this has to a lot to do with the new linear mapping; which none of the other modes have.
