I searched on the site but couldn't find reference to my question. If I missed it, please supply a link.

This morning I dropped off my 2017 dcsb sport at the dealer for the 10000 mile oil change and check up and recall check. My usb port has been working intermittently when I try to charge my phone through it. When I took the truck in for the 5000 mile maintenance they ordered a new USB for me but then never called to let me know that it came in. When I went in today, the tech first told me that it was that it was out of stock - then he said that they did have one and that they would replace mine but he's heard from his service manager that the USB ports aren't meant to charge phones and it says so in the manual. I looked in the manual and can't find anything regarding that. Does anybody have any information or experience regarding this?
I'll be returning to pick up my truck (see what I did there???) in a couple hours so I would love to return armed with any knowledge you all might be able to provide thank you

I cant confirm if it is meant to charge a phone or not, but I do know it takes for-goddamn-ever to charge my phone even just 10%.

Thanks Steven. When it has worked, it seemed to charge at a normal rate. Not fast charger speed, but reasonable.

I've never tried to charge my phone with the USB port in my G2....because my MP3 player is always plugged into it.

But for $5 get a 12v to USB adapter and call it a day.

The USB port is not for charging a phone. While it can charge some phones it was designed to play music from a USB drive

The USB port in the dash is spec-compliant USB port for data and power and is thus limited to 0.5A. It may charge your phone, depending on what else your phone is doing and how much power it's consuming. But as everyone else says, just get a 2A charger for the center console 12V outlet and use Bluetooth to connect the phone. I agree it doesn't make sense, but not much does with Toyota's infotainment system.

Thanks for all the replies. Heading over to pick up the truck now, then a trip to Fry's to get a plug adapter.

(For you AZ folks, Fry's is an electronics store in CA....like a Costco sized Radioshack)...not the grocery store elsewhere - although it is the same company.
