4x4 definitely carries a premium, but 1st gen tacomas in general are going for more than the blue book. They just don't make em like they used to, so the saying goes, and if you want a compact truck, you gotta go 1st gen tacoma. High demand + frame rot taking inventory off the market + the fact these trucks can go well beyond 200 if well maintained, you get higher prices than those sites list. my 0.02

Those reasons make sense for the high prices. I'd think the algorithms in the value guides would catch on though and adjust for how much these trucks are actually selling for. At least NADA puts a "clean retail" of closer to $11-12k, but that's with dealer markup.

At least @Smash8ight 's bank seems to know what's up...

The last few years of pretty low gas prices, relatively speaking, probably didnt help as more people were willing to drive a 15-18mpg vehicle. If gas prices were to go up to say $5/gallon levels, which we saw I think around 2008 in California (and in the $4's most other states), I could see prices coming down. I could be wrong though...

Putting four full doors on any 4x4 pickup pops the value..I wasn't looking for a tacoma when I found mine....I looked at every 4 door truck.mid-sized that is..and all the values were higher than average 2 door or extra cab.....but the tacoma had the best rear setting...imo....I did not want a full size truck,i almost bought a titan nismo for the same money.just more truck than I needed...I would have payed 14,000 for the tacoma if it would have been better condition...

IMAG0002.jpgBought from original owner about a year ago. High miles 245,000, but in decent shape for being a 2001. Got it for $2100. I'm happy, but have so much I want to do to her.

I bought my 2003 Pre-runner 2.7 new. Don't remember the exact price, but it was around 19k before a $1000 rebate because the 2004s were out.

IMG_5087.jpg 03 v6 4x4 TRD Auto, I paid $12k with 47k miles 1 owner bone stock. Truck is like new underneath no surface rust or anything anywhere. I put the wheels on, and Bilsteins on the front to level it. This was beginning of the yr and I have it parked 80%of the time since I have a work vehicle so I only put 4K miles in almost 7months now since owning it.

Il try to take a few more pics, it's all stock other then the few things that are visible. I don't plan on doing much to it trying to keep it as original as possible just in case I go to sell it one day. I know it will probably bring a good penny specially not modified.

$0. Used to be my dad's personal company truck. Gave it to me shortly after. Only had around 70,000 miles when I acquired it, pretty low for a 1998.

I paid $12,900 before taxes (I was the first guy to hit up the owner on craigslist the day he posted it and 12.9k was asking price), 4wd, trd off-road with just under 73,000 miles on it. First year of having it, it was perfect besides a torn cv boot and cigarette burns here and there. About a year later after a trip to Tahoe my transmission kept failing and ended up having to get a factory refurbished one, the shop that did the work on my truck said someone had taken the trans out before them meaning some shady shit went down.
