There's a thread called 'Ask A Detailer', I think. It's in the Detailing section.
    Should have most your answers

That's more of a "when" rather than a "how often." For how often you clean and care for your paint, I think you're good for a long time! If I had to throw out a number, I'd say once every 6 months to a year.

A clay bar will remove the wax/sealant layer you currently have on, so I'd only use it when you start to see swirl marks, you're ready to polish them out, and apply a fresh new coat of wax/sealant.

Do yourself a favor and get a 6-pack before you do, because the prep work almost always kills my motivation. Appropriately metered consumption helps keep the project moving and relatively stress-free

Do you keep it in a garage? I would say with what you are doing, I would guess once a year would be fine.

Depends. Is it garaged? Does it get exposed to a lot of tree sap or other contaminants falling out of the sky? I use Zaino products and the truck is garaged and the truck spends 98% of it's life on pavement. Once a year I will do the full treatment: wash, clay, wash, hand polish, polish and polish. Probably wash it once a month. So, short answer, I clay once a year for my situation. Good luck and congrats on your new truck and retirement. Where are you in Maryland? I'm in Anne Arundel County, Severna Park.

Anytime you touch your paint there is risk for scratching and marring, so the clay bar process, even when done meticulously has some risk of marring and scratching. No paint cleaning process is devoid of risk.
In some cases you probably can get away with going straight to polishing/cutting without too much of an issue.

The only thing I might add to what other people have already told you, unless you need to, don't wash the truck once a week. You CAN, depending on your washing methods, lower the life of sealers and waxes by over washing and aggressive washing. I'd keep the maintenance washes down to needs only. Also, as always, two bucket wash with pH balanced soaps to prevent stripping of sealers.

Shouldn't notice a deterioration when using a spray wax to dry.

I've heard a lot about those. I'd even like to give their wash mitt a try. I've read that you can use car soap as a lubricant, so I would think that this would kill 2 birds with one stone. Wash a spot, flip it over, "clay" the same spot, wash the next spot.

I was thinking "That looks like rattle-can paint. Probably damaged that side...which makes sense why he didn't clay bar the sides..."

IMG_3089.jpg This is why you don't wax without clay bar. I feel so bad for them, this is a brand new X5. Clear coat is totally marred.
