That's a lot of added cost to do all of that stuff. Yes, it will be "better" stuff, but not everyone has an extra chunk of cash to add all of those things.

OP, it's really if you just want those extras. I wanted them and it was cheaper to buy the SR5 than to do all those upgrades the way I would have done them, if I was doing them.

I really like my truck, but in hindsight, I should have opted for an Offroad. Adding a locker is definitely within my capabilities, but the air locker, compressor, wheels, wheel flairs, and suspension ain't exactly cheap for me.

Also if your truck gets totaled, its way easier to get those things replaced if they come on your truck, then as being add ons.

Op, I just recently went from an SR5dblcab 4x2 4cyl to the same truck in SR5 4x4 V6 dbl cab
( mainly Did it for towing capability)
I had the ability to compare SR to SR5 side by side just my 2 cents worth but if you can swing the SR5 go that route,
were the SR trim package shines is in the access cab 4cyl 4x4 mt.

What creature comforts ? You can add everything 5 has and better/cheaper, except the little console window in the dash. And put it on the radio display (Pioneer) and carplay too.
    I don't understand.
If you buy the inflated SR5 dealer price it costs more.
Lots of people trash their tires/rims the first day.
    Lifts, shocks,etc.
SRs come with tow package, double cab, keyless entry etc. Everything if you look.
For less better tires rims shocks radio, customized.

I got my truck for just a little over invoice. Many dealers here do inflate the price.... I actually drove a few hours away to get a better deal.

The other point is that one can buy the truck they want, roll all the cost into the car loan... then have all they really wanted without having to come up with a few thousand dollars for rims, tires, suspension, etc. etc. It just depends on each persons situation. I don't have a problem with the SR, SR5, Offroad etc..... but not everyone wants to go and "add" a bunch of stuff after buying the truck.

SR5 price is only inflated if you pay the dealer msrp asking price.

But if you negotiate right and reasonably, you’ll find that it cost a lot more to add-in creature comforts such as leather steering wheel, cruise control, intermittent windshield wipers, fog lights, multi functional display, touch audio, engine oil cooler, and such.
But if you add these things later, not only will it cost a lot more but if the vehicle gets stolen or totaled, you may never see that money from the insurance company without a major argument from an attorney.
You also have to contend with some of the unknowns like is it per-wired? Or can I just put it on w/o having to take it to the stealer or need techstream software to activate it?
And on top of all that, you may just give the stealership the perfect excuse to void your warranty.
The SR model is the perfect choice for fleet use such as like a bug spray company or for work such as a lawn maintenance.

But for me, My DD needs to have some basic creature comforts. Things like remote door lock/unlock basic anti-theft alarm and all the items already mentioned above.

But that’s just me now, when I was younger, I had to do without power windows in an SR5. Can you imagine that??

Oh how far and spoiled rotten have I gotten!

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

The original one I saw was inferno, now I have seen at least two. SR5 looks like a good deal.

OP - recently a member did an in depth write up on a fender flare mod. Essentially he was adding fender flares to his SR. Besides having to drill 10 holes on each wheel well, the project reached $1,600 very quickly before prime and paint work.

The take away message was get an SR5 over an SR because the fender/wheel flares by themselves are worth the price difference.

I thought I wanted an SR but I'm really glad I wound up getting an SR5. In my opinion there is more value in that package for the price difference.

You can negotiate on an SR just as easily. Do you think you can you can only deal on SR5's.
And you will not void a warranty with any any of these addons if done properly.
Techstream is not needed for any of it.
I have seen a few SR's modded out that look way better than the mall crawl SR5 as it comes off the lot.
Some people that have flares are trashing them for more beefier ones. Factory ones look kind of weak imo.

    $1600 ? Drilling holes ? Totally wrong.
Look at lund no drilling required. And they don't look as plain jane as factory.
I saw a Colorado with them last week that made the truck look awesome.

The dash display, fender flares, leather wrapped steering wheel, and entune unit w/ home button are what sold me on SR5. Then not having to order and install the cruise, fog lights, etc. was a huge plus. In the end, buy what works best for you. It just happened the SR5 offered the creature comforts and convenience I wanted without going too far up in price like the higher trims did. I also didn't need half the stuff that comes with the higher trims so SR5 was right for me.

"This is a much bigger undertaking than you might think, at least for the first person making the leap. There's a good deal of missing hardware, as non-flare bodies are missing holes for the fender flare clips. The "proper" way to do this would be to upgrade your fenders, but that's extremely cost prohibitive. You would need to buy 2 front fenders, 2 bedsides, and the front bumper: total cost of roughly $1600 before paint!! Drilling your existing fenders is not an option in my opinion either because you would have to make 10 holes per side, per fender, with very little room for error. So then, that leaves us with using the existing fasteners and a little bit of creativity with our placement of 3M tape. Good 3M tape applied properly is tenacious."

    from the link you posted.

if you were to do it how its done factory would be $1600, way he did it is much cheaper and looks just as good

Correct me if wrong, but alloy wheels are not standard on SR or SR5 trim levels. They are an extra ~$1,000 from dealer and only 15-16".

I went SR with the appearance package and only upgraded the wheels with aftermarket ones. I picked up a TRD grill on this website and chrome Tacoma emblems and my truck is already being confused for a TRD when people see it. I dont need all the junk they stick in these things so a base truck is fine for me. I saved around $5000 and got the look with out the price.

I don't want the "styled steel wheels" on another truck. I need the tow pkg. and want the convenience pkg as well as the appearance pkg. Do the packages include alloy wheels and int. wipers?

Does the v6 and auto automatically include tow pkg? I have two issues here: I don't want to pay extra for things I don't need. I also don't want to add things after purchase aside from a cap and some type of towing help. likely Sumos.

On my MSRP window sticker they had alloy wheels listed with the SR5 trim package (i.e. Color keyed fenders, etc...) to boost the MSRP from $28K to $31,500 (including delivery fee). The sticker made it look like it had 2 MSRP's but I knew that $31,500 was their "nice to have" price. Also I made it clear I wouldn't be paying $30K for a truck. Not for what I do and won't be doing.

I started out looking for the SR's but at the time no one around me had them and you had to special order them.

You might be able to special order the SR with the trim options, but perhaps the after market trim options like flares are the way to go, but I don't know how good clips and 3M stickum holds up over time. It works for AVS ventvisors though.

I kind of wish my flares were painted black rather than matching inferno. If I could find black vinyl wraps to trim it out it would look sharp. At the end of the day I think my fender flares look better than no fender flares.
