This. Cut it off, paint the raw part with roundup immediately after you cut it. Leave and let die. I did that with my crepe myrtle I pulled up last year. Those things are notorious for sprouting back up after being cut.

    Actually, common misconception.
Spray Roundup on and wait 3-4 weeks, then cut down.
Roundup is a systemic weedkiller meaning:

Systemic Weedkillers are those that are absorbed through the leaf and into the weed's sap stream to be transported to all growing points, including the roots. The weedkiller will then stop the weed from growing and it will eventually die. This process can take between 7 days and several weeks, depending on the climatic conditions and the type and size of the weed. Roundup works faster when weeds are actively growing. If weeds are not growing vigorously (e.g. in cold weather, or if the plant is stressed by drought), the process may take up to 4 weeks.

Save your round up and your time, just go for the stump killer.

I also heard you can just drill a whole and fill it with covfefe. It will be dead in minutes.

Sometimes Lowe's will carry different stuff. I was looking for foaming root killer (sere line), HD did not have what I wanted, and Lowe's did. You might also try a local nursery.

Started the facias / barge boards and soffits on the back wing of the house that is conventionally framed with a vented roof system

Might be hard to see in the pics but I never like the look of an exposed soffit vent so I tend to hide them if possible , usually at the wall with a trim at the top of the siding but in this case we hid the intake screen between the beams

Nice detail! Nothing like having to ruin clean lines with a bunch of functional penetrations. That's a lot of surface area too to draw from.

So still finishing up the soffits and facias on the back wing of the house and in keeping with my desire to hide the soffit / roof venting where possible I decided to do a concealed top vent for the air that will be flowing up through the rafter system from the "between the beams" intake I showed earlier

We cut ovals through the sub facia in each rafter bay in the overhang and applied perforated J moulding to bug proof this area from above primarily and also from below if the soffit should shrink away from the facia over time down the road

We applied 1/2" plywood spacers and nailed on a second 2x6 subfacia through the plywood spacers and into the existing framing

The result is that when the soffit and finished facia are installed , the convection current from the lower "between the beam" intake vent will flow through the rafter system and then exit through this vent and finally out through a roof flashing detail at the top edge of the roof and there will be no visible vent

Any ideas how to remedy? Not from the dog, she uses one small area as her toilet. I have multiple spots. Thought it may have been a dull mower blade so I sharpened it and now it seems to be spreading.

Looks like you've got a fungus. An antifungal will help slow it down and keep it from spreading.

Is it getting adequate water? When I first moved in to my house in mid summer the lawn had all kinds of dormant spots from not enough sprinkler coverage.

If that isn't the issue my second thought would be grub damage, although that is probably doubtful now that I think about it more, as that is more of a late summer/fall thing I believe.

Any tips to make it green again?

Yes on the water. Ran the sprinklers after turning them on last month to make sure the heads were adjusted properly.

I'd get an antifungal and use it right away and keep the grass watered well. Next time you fertilize, use the antifungal again.

That is fucking badass, Pete. I would have to think that it is a rare builder/contractor who 1. would even think of this approach and 2. have the patience to fabricate it rather than just do something cheap and easy so he can get to the next contract more quickly.

My guess is 99.9% of homeowners would not even understand this, or the long-term value of it.

Is this a feature you discussed with the owner and/or architect?
