Any woodworkers?

The wood workers on YouTube are making me wear out Amazon Prime.

 

I've been watching Mattias's videos for awhile. Jay Bates is another one who has some good videos. Jimmy Diresta is pretty amazing too.

 

I like Jay Bates but I haven't seen Diresta yet. No one beats Jay in editing his videos. For comedy I'll watch Steve Ramsey but for dry humor and plain ingenuity you can't beat Mattias. I've been looking around at others so name a few more and I'll check them out. I'm always looking for others to watch.

 

Marius Hornberger - guy from Germany

Chris Salamone - a bit soft spoken, but some interesting designs.

Frank Howarth - wood turning, uses CNC, old tools, really good videos.

Wood by Wright - hand tool guy. I just started watching him, videos seem pretty good.

Samurai Carpenter - Jesse's videos are good, he's a bit cocky, but knows his stuff.

Ishitani - Japanese furniture maker.

Jackman Works - uses a lot of pallet wood.

Izzy Swan - really good at making jigs, very creative.

 

Don't know if this qualifies as woodwork; more like carpentry. After fixing up, repainting and re-roofing their existing shed, my grandparents decided they needed more storage space, so I built this shed for them. Considering it was my first time tackling anything close to this big, I think it turned out well. Certainly had a blast building it. Probably spent as long planning it and designing it as I did actually building it, lol. Can anyone spot any mistakes in the framing or construction? Anything you would have done different? Probably gonna build something similar for the 'rents next time I'm home on leave.

 

I would have built it tall enough for a loft.
BTW you might want to trim that tree back a bit. It'll tear up your roof.

 

Yeah, a loft would have been a good idea. Don't know if the foundation I used would support that kind of weight though. I wanted to do a full concrete pad, but it wasn't in the budget.

The tree is not longer with us. A couple years after the build, I told Gramps I was gonna trim it back. He told me "Cut that sum'bitch down".

 

Thank you for the recommendations. I've been binge watching today and I've got to say Chris Salamone is very good with designing pieces. I've been especially enjoying his videos.

Hey man how are the wings?

 

They worked out beautifully, but it did require some minor shenanigans to get them mounted. They are super flat which is nice. They're also 2" wider than the stock wings so I got an additional 4" overall work space.

1) The Ridgid saw has 3 holes to mount wings and the Saw Stop wings have 4 holes. So I drilled and tapped 4 new holes on each side of the Ridgid saw. Also had to drill holes in the wings to accept the Ridgid fence rails. The cast Saw Stop wings and cast Ridgid saw table are pretty soft so the drilling and tapping was super easy.

2) The Saw Stop wings are 1/16" shorter than the Ridgid table saw. So I lined the wings up flush at the front of the saw and then cut some 1/16" thick aluminum flat bar for the back side to make up the difference so the rear fence rail would bolt up flush to the Saw Stop wings.

I've already gotten some good use out of it. It's sort of a mess right now but here a few pics. In the last pic you can see the bevel is a little different but it doesn't seem to be bothering me any.

 

I followed your lead and I've got the Super dust deputy, the Wynn filter and I couldn't find a suitable barrel locally so picked up a 30 gallon trash can with a tight fitting lid. I'm hoping to have time this weekend to get it all assembled.

Mine is going to end up in the same spot yours is, next to the garage door track.

 

So my mom ordered this farmhouse table at a local craft fair, this is what they delivered. Anyone spot the problem?

I would be interested to see what it looks like if you put a straight edge all the way across the top of it. I'll bet it's more than just where you circled.

 

The top of the leg isn't cut flush causing the top board to be messed up. She got ripped off on this thing. They used green Douglass fir, top boards aren't edge glued so you know there's going to be a gap in a few years. They didn't even pick out good wood
