    Thanks Bob.

Are there special hoods that work with reading glasses without fogging up?

Yes, most hoods have the capability of installing a lens much like reading glasses. they fit on the inside and are available in all the common strengths. if you use reading glasses make sure the hood you get can accommodate a pair. most due
I use a +2 they cost about $10. well worth it.

    THIS is good to know.
I'll do a little research on helmets. For an occasional user like me, I think my budget is less than $150

1/4 is kinda thin for that root. Usually you practice with 3/8 or 1/2" plate. You running a land or no? What's your amps? Give us all the details and what you're struggling with.

You whipping it? With open root you want to shove the 60 in it. Should sound like a jet on the other side and really should barely see the arc from your side. If you're keyholing then you need to move faster. If it gets away from you then whip it a little further up to give it a chance to cool before dropping back down

Union boilermaker here. Is this for school or a job? Never heard of 1/4 plate test. You can also try lazy circles instead of linear whipping motion. A bevel is definitely you're friend. It will make it alot easier to move your wire without getting stuck and give you way better penetration.

To me it sounds like you're trying to get a good root in. But you're trying to burn through 1/4 plate rather than a bevel so you're going slower to burn through the metal but it's getting so hot that it keyholes and leaves you scrambling to get control of it.

Pics would help a ton. Pics as in : fit up, weld front and back.

Could bevel em, and use a tight gap since you're using 1/4" (like a 1/16 gap") and travel a tad faster and should get good results. Obviously gonna have to travel faster at the top because heat rises

You guys have an opinion on the ? They seem to get good customer reviews.
Will they fit on the Hobart Handler 210 MVP MIG welder?

Well if your 6010 is for school what does the teacher have to say??

remember any thing that works is good ( stop and start) if these are 4" pieces of course things get hot fast.

How are your tie ins that was the hardest thing for me way back when.

1/4" limit to bend test time to get a bigger hydraulic jack

*** At this time I would not wish a Esab on anyone !!

*** Harbor freight contact tips try them see how you like them do they come in bags of 25 like most others ?? i see you end up with 5 contact tips in sizes you will most likely never use . then mix them all up leading to interesting feed problems .

Hey guys, I work offshore but I'm considering another trade so that I could be home more often. I looked into Lincoln Tech for their welding class. Has anyone graduated from their 9-12 month welding class? How much can one expect to make as a welder?

Also! HF has a badass life time warranty. Usually no questions
lol! Yea if you're gonna be a welder then you better get used to burns... sparks always find a way. Down your chest, asscrack, arms.. fuck.. even your ear.
Eventually you get tolerance and realize you ain't no bitch and keep welding even while you're getting burned lol!
1/4" test for school is... different. Not sure what school you're going to but if you're paying for it then I'd ask for a refund cause industry standard is atleast 3/8 for test but some people even use 1/2"

Hopefully y'all learn about arc gouging too. Lot of sparks and loud as fuck but really fun and quick way to take out a lot of thick metal.

Welding money all depends on what you want.

I could work at a vessel shop in my hometown right now as a 6G flux pipe welder and make $20/hr

I used to work at a pole shop as a flux core/sub arc welder making $18/hr

Then I got into power plants as structural welder and have made: $25/hr, $27/hr, $28/hr and $32/hr.

You can get into tig and be a combo welder or tube welder and make $35-40/hr
Or you can get into refineries and make even more

There's easily 6 figure money in welding if you're up to the challenge and hustle.

There's also pipeline work too where you can make $50-$60/hr after your rig pay too.

I'm 23. Been welding professionally for 2 years now and have cleared a cunt hair under $60k/yr and usually only work 8 months a year as well.

Goal for this year is $70k and I've already been off the entire month of May pretty much.

If you like welding and want to do better and continue learning.. the money is endless really.
