Challenger Running Boards

Recently I was on the search for runnningboards and found the Challenger runningboards on Runningboardwarehouse.com. They looked like the old OEM style that Toyota used to put on some trucks in the south in the past. I couldn't find any reviews on them or anything and there was limited information so I decided to give them a try. They appealed to me because they were extremely wide and would give a lot of door ding protection and help my husky when jumping in the back seat or either one of my grandmothers. I ordered the steps from them on ebay and got them for right around $300 shipped after a Bing rebate. They arrived quickly via FedEx and were packaged great. The mounts came in a separate package as it was shipped from a different warehouse. The running boards appear to be very high quality and appear to be very strong. I ordered the ones that were powder coated black and the finish looks great on them.



The install was very simple and they mount with three solid mounts to the bottom of the cab in the factory locations. Here is a pick of them installed.



They are very wide and I can stand on them and balance with both feet without hanging on. They make washing the roof a breeze and getting in easy even for my 5' girlfriend despite my lift. They fit up close to the cab and look like they were made for the truck. Overall I am definitely impressed with them and am happy with my purchase. If you have anymore questions just ask... I would have gotten more pictures but I had to snap that one just as it started raining.

You are right on having the extra height for working on the roof top, without em no way could I latchup my kayaks. Thanks for the review & pics.

 

does it offer protection or is it just for stepping on and looks?

 

No protection like sliders would... They will definitely protect against door dings though. Theres no way they could support the weight of the truck.

 

I like how they're all black and hug up against the truck. Good job!

 

Ive considered these a few times as I think they are the best looking boards outside of sliders. Have any more pictures to share?

 

It looks like you took off your mud flaps, true? Did you have to do that? I've seen some that have done that and their boards have had gunk trapped up between the board and the bottom edge of the truck. Do you have much space between the board and the bottom of the truck? I'm trying to consider what board to get, my wife has a bit of a challenge getting "up" into the seat and mentions it everytime she rides with me.

I appreciate the pics - any more info you can share would be much appreciated!

 

I think it's stopped raining so I'll go pull the truck out of the garage and see what I can do.

 

Removing the mud flaps is not required... I did it a long time ago. Theres a little gap between the boards and the cab but not too much. If mud or something did get caught up in there you could just hose it out.

WOW, awesome pics and detail, thanks so much! My Pre is almost identical to your (color-wise) but is '10 sport so you give me a good idea of what black would look like and whether or not there would have been interference with mud flaps (appears no, there is room). The only concern I have is IF the board is low (enough space) from the bottom of the truck to aid ;ike a "step" to getting "up and in." I have to share your pics w/my wife.

Thanks... The steps don't come down too low so you still have to step up to get in.. but at the same time they do help a lot. No more split jeans

My truck has a 2" toytec add a leaf in the rear, 5100's at 2.5" in the front and factory tires for reference.
