This is on the "Performance" tab. Is that what you're looking for? It does mention that it is a 3-3.5:1 RPM ratio.

:facepalm:Didn't even see that tab. Those numbers look good, which leads me to think that it's a bigger alternator housing, stator and rotor for the turn on speed to be that low. The power generation is based on how fast the magnetic fields are rotating, and you can make them rotate faster by either speeding up the RPM the alternator spins by or by increasing the diameter of the rotor (which would need a correspondingly larger diameter stator and thus a larger case). The turn on speed of 1230 should correspond to an engine speed of 350 to 410 engine RPM at the ratios that they list. The only issue that I can think of off the top of my head in that case is that you might stall the engine on startup if you've got a lot of electrical demand, though I don't think that would be very likely.

Now you have to justify for yourself whether it's worth it to you to drop that much coin on a new alternator. If you need that much juice, by all means go for it. I wouldn't be able to justify that for myself, even with a winch. On the flip side, you could probably run a welder off of it  My dust and water protection concerns still stand.

FWIW, the GM CS144 alternator I'm running is 150 amps that I got for $120. It's nowhere near the 270 amps of the DC power alternator, but it's also nowhere near the price tag. It's almost double the stock alternator output though without too much work making it fit. I posted the writeup a few pages back, here it is again :) http://forum.expeditionportal.com/t...the-5vz-fe-(-02-Tacoma)?p=1249360#post1249360

After the last Tahuya outing, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Dain's alternator took the water input like a champ.
    There are photos here somewhere...

Just a heads up, the guy at firestone told me this morning they have a $40 off deal going for the lifetime alignment. Not sure when it ends or where it applies.

It IS missing the extra set of axles to the rear (i.e. AMG 6.3 6X6) - settle for nothing less...
