If you are that kind of guy, 255's would be a great option for height!

 

The 255 are 0.23 inches taller on the sidewall.

 

255/85/16

 

Only reason I'm going to 285/75r16's is to fill out the wheel well a little more, plus the added 3/4" of ground clearance doesn't hurt. My 265/75r16's just look a little small with my lift.

To be honest, I just want a really clean looking build that can still go offroad. I've got a plan for one big purchase per year for my truck. This year was lift and tire's.

I was trying to see if there were any actual benefits off road with a larger tires. Also wanted to widen the stance and protrude past fenders so I looked at spacers and all that jazz. Realized I needed 0 offset rims. Started looking for rims. Realized all the rims I liked are 17x9. To get a tire that fits a 9 I would need to jump up a size to 285 70 17. I really didn't need rims and tires so I bought skid plates instead.

 

I like your reasonning! Wheels are good looking! But stock wheels get the job done!

Get EVEN bigger tires, and it WILL float

 

I'm running the 255's and they have been a big improvement compared to when I ran arbdeg stock with 265's. That could have been the suspension helping though too. Either way the bigger the tire generally the smoother the ride if you air down.

I'm hoping to do 35's, but the regear and lockers portion is the pricey part. See how she goes.

 

35's would be awesome. I'm thinking of either doing a regear or rear bumper next year.

 

How are they on the road and how's the clearance? Do they only come in 16"?

I love them. Haven't had any issue with clearance for daily driving. I have my sway bar on and with the heavy coils my front end doesn't flex a whole lot. Offroad the extra height has been night and day difference. Didn't have to trim with my suspension setup (old man emu with 886 coils, wheelers bumpstops, light racing uca, stock away bar)

They do come in 17's- 255/80/17 I believe.

As for road manners, really depends on the tred. Braking performance wasn't harmed too much, but then again my trucks a pig now so who knows if it's the tires. I'm running copper st max.

 

I'm thinking nitro gears in 4.88's but thats going to be a while before I actually get them. I'm going to wait and see if I even feel a big difference going to 33's on the stock drivetrain. Thats why I'm debating gears or rear bumper. I've got plenty of time to figure it out though.

 

Pretty much what I did. I'm finally feeling the strain and saving for the regear. Issue is I'll have to up tire size as well to even it all out. No point in only doing it for the weight if the opportunity to upgrade tire size is an option.

 

Hey gents, sorry if this has been asked in here. I did try search bar and it didn't appear as much but does anyone know what happened to the Sontt forum?
It's been down or gone rather for almost 2 weeks.

I don't know enough of the guys there personally for any contact methods outside of the forum and was curious if any of you here knew more than I did.
