So I've been keeping an eye on my mpg lately and it's really terrible. I'm not heavy on the peddle, and I'm only getting an average of around 13-14 mpg?

Most of my trips are very short around town, but still, should it be this bad?

14mpg in a short cold start town drive isnt abnormal. Your engine doesnt get heated up in that distance

"It's a normal characteristic of this truck".

I get about the same +1 or -1 mpg when driving in town.

Yeah the truck doesn't get gas mileage quite as well as Toyota would like you to think it should.

    many of them do.
I think it has more to do with the individual driver than the individual truck, however.

    if I drive with a sense of urgency, I get 15/18 city/highway. If I drive like a retiree, I get 22/25.

I just got back from a 5.4 mile (one way) trip that I did hundreds of times in my gen1. The best I ever got from a cold start was 19.2 (by calibrated SGII). That's no A/C, not stopping for any lights... best case scenario cold start.

Today was the second day I've done this trip in the gen3. A/C on, slowed to a crawl at one light, had to wait at a second light, cold start... 24.4.

Edit: third day was 25.4, A/C off; but, still had to stop at a light.
Edit: almost hot start was 27.9, A/C on, stopped at light. Best gen1 hot start was ~22.

True, at speeds above 65 or 70, the gen3 is not any better. Why? Physics... It takes more energy to push this truck through the air.

If you can find an internal combustion engine that operates as efficiently when cold as it does warm i have an award for you

That shows a 6-7% Gain in the 2016-17 over the 2014-2015. What were you expecting 43MPG in a highly capable offroad truck?

Wow the 2016 and 2017 is not much better than the 2009, 2010, and others. You would think with time this technology would improve. I thought they put the smaller 3.5 in our truck so we would get better gas mileage. I do not think this was a worthy trade off why not just keep the 4.0 then we could supercharge it!

6% to 7% is a pretty narrow margin in context and remember that there are some full size trucks getting as good if not better fuel efficiency

65 to 75 probably the speed limit on a vast majority of CONUS interstates and freeways

I didn't do the math, but a 6-7% increase is a big deal. There's an Engineer somewhere being praised.

Please show the math on how you are getting a 6% to 7% increase. 2nd gens were getting 18.3mpg. 3rd gens are getting between 18.6 and 18.9 based on Fuelly.

Prove it. Not with EPA published numbers, but real world numbers. Go to the message boards of Ford and GM and Dodge. I did. Same bitch -

If, and that's a big IF, you drive like the EPA test, you will see an improvement. Problem is, very few drive that way.

OK, fine, I can do it for you. BASED ON YOUR DATA, 17.6+17.6 / 18.6+18.9 = 6.133%. That's a 2014 & 2015 averaged against the 2016 & 2017 average. Go sell your truck already hater.
