I agree man, we should be a strong community and to call someone out like that without decent provocation just shouldn't be needed amongst each other. Im sure that collectively, both probably wish that communication could of been handled a little differently. What is important though is that I think both parties have looked to see the brighter side of things and that an order might still take place.

As far as with the fire capt, I normally never get an opportunity as I don't know many first responders, but that's cool that you did that. I always wondered if there was a line with creating possible hazards in responding to a call. I think the fire chief made the right call here as I don't think it was the name calling that caused that suspension, but to embrace the mentality that it was ok to create an unsafe environment for elderly citizens while in transit to a response.

 

Totally untrue. We put both under microscope and looked at material. OEM is way better quality and more reliable

Marginal at best, let's see your findings professor? Plenty of people on HIDP would recommend aftermarket for a budget retro. Of course OEM is a little better, but nowhere in my prior statement did I say aftermarket was better, but for a budget BiX retro, they would hold up fine for many years. How reliable does a plastic housing and lens have to be? Sound like justification for inflated build pricing to me.

 

I was able to do it by hand which I think is how it should be done. If you can't open it by hand then it isn't hot enough. However I used a flat head to follow the seam of the headlight so that the stretched out butyl wouldn't fall onto the housing or lens of the headlight

I'll speak for guys baking there oem housings,and that it is solid and can only melt with carelessness.
I can't say how aftermarket housings would hold up though

 

Yes I did black it out with satin black spray paint. Not krylon though just a cheap one at lowes. It was a primer paint in one can

I did scuff up the bowls using a 100 grit sanding sponge.

 

I use aftermarkets to help people with pricing but OEM ones are way better. You can feel the difference in quality

 

Again, thanks for all the great info, you've been very helpful. When you say you used a flat blade to follow the seam, do you mean you basically scored the seam after it cooked but before you split the casing?

After opening the headlights a little but, around half an inch gap, the butyl would just stretch instead of seperating so I took the flat head and "cut" the butyl all the way through the whole headlight by sliding it along the opening
