09 Double Cab Complete Audio Makeover

Thanks man... Yeah, they sprayed the amp board and speaker box before shipping them out. I took out my plastic consoles and had them sprayed by my local Line-X shop while waiting for my components.
I'm not positive that sub will fit. I'd have to check. Is the mounting depth 6.9"... that's why I'm finding. The sub I have sits only 5.75" and fits. It's kindof shallow in the box... has to be so the seats will close back.

 

hey what type or kind of paint did u spray on the plastic mouldings?

Took them to my local Line-X dealers, and they coated it with the same spray material that they spray in the the beds of trucks.

 

Great write up on the install. When you installed the PAC SWI-PS, did your steering wheel buttons light up? Did you have to do extra wiring to get them to light up? Also, where did you plug the PAC into the AVIC-Z? I am doing a similar install and was just looking for some help. Thanks....

 

In my book total disaster. Scotch-locks for wire connectors? You-re asking for trouble.

I finally hooked up a couple of leds to my truck. Nothing fancy just a little bit of lighting. One of these days when I get off work when there is daylight, I will post up some pics. Just now eating lunch and been at work since 7.

 

My steering wheel buttons didn't light up when I programmed the PAC unit, but the lights still come on when I turn my lights on, if that's what you're asking? There is a remote control input on the back of the AVIC-Z... It's similar to a headphone style jack )that size at least). Let me know if you need help locating it.

Yeah, you already stated that on the previous page. I don't see the big deal. Yes, they are not top of the line connectors, but I've used them on different installs over the years and have had absolutely ZERO problems with any system connections. I promise... if I do have a connection problem, I will post back here so everyone else knows not to use them.
BTW, if scotch-locks are not the way to go, please post your recommendation.

I installed the AVIC-Z and my steering wheel buttons no longer light up. I am hoping that they will when I install the PAC. I am going to install it tomarrow. Thanks for the help.

 

This is a very nice write up. I like the fact that you got everything together ahead of time and planned it out. Now I know what I'm getting into.

Question: The Tacotune speaker adapters, do they sit flush with the door sheet metal or do they sit on top of the nylon pieces?
And, that 4ga wire, did you use all 20ft of it, and if not what in the world did you cut it with?

I think that's my last question before I order the same speaker set.

The speaker adapters are just placed over the factory hole. ********* already drilled holes for the 4 bolts to mount to the door. You will need to pre-drill 4 separate holes for your speaker placement. Pretty seemless and easy. You will love those speakers. BTW, I had to trim a little on the tweeter mounts to get them in... but I did that with my knife... no big deal.

The 20ft of red wire is the 0/2ga wire. I actually used my table saw with a fine tooth blade and good eye protection. I had to cut it once to fit to the fuse block under the hood, and then cut again to shorten from the block to the battery. I probably only used 18 ft or so?? The 4ga wire is the blue wire... I cut that in half, as I needed two to go from the distribution block (mounted to the back of the amp board) to each amp.

Thanks! I was very happy with the way the head unit and Scosche kit ended up looking very factory. I'm with you on this... I did not want my nav system to stick out like a soar thumb, and I wanted the rest to be completely hidden. :=)

 

Wish I could say this was my last question but it never is...

In the ********* speaker kits (I actually just placed my order for the speakers, sub, and PDX-5 amp a few minutes ago), I have not seen any reference to what I guess they call a baffle, the item you place on the back side of a door speaker in order to keep water/moisture off of it. I rarely see it mentioned in these forums as well. Does the Taco door have a design feature that protects against water damage?

If you added baffles, what brand did you use?

Ah, and is there a reason for not installing this water protecting device? Maybe it makes the speakers sound poorly, I don't know.

I am too, currently, but most of you already know I'm having problems getting my Sub Woofer Speaker. Still not in the mail, in a few days it will be a month since I placed the order.

 

i know crutchfield sells water baffles.



i don't think ********* sells those, but i'mm not sure. never ordered from them. i know must guys don't run an enclosed baffle like that because it acts as a speaker enclosure.

 

I know this is a little off-topic but, does anyone have any experience "hot-wiring" a pioneer Navi head unit to allow watching DVD's while moving? I tried fooling the speed sensor and parking break interlock but the deck still knows I'm moving. I am assuming its via the GPS.. Any ideas?
