Do it. It's a good starter truck. And everyone should know how to drive a manual.

I'd do it, can't go wrong in my opinion. Besides, everyone should know how to drive a standard!:burnrubber:

do it! people who learn on standard get something that others just do not get learning on an automatic... best part is you can most likely sell it and at the least break even after.

So how does it work with your tow yard? Do people have their vehicles towed and never claim it? Wonder why people just leave their cars like that. How do you re-title it in your name? Awesome it's in your possession now.

I fail to understand how that can be considered a drawback...learning to drive a manual is a good thing, and in my opinion should be mandatory. On top of that, it's an opportunity to spend time with your kid. I have fond memories of my pops teaching me to drive my first car, which was a stick shift.

In conclusion: not a drawback, its a selling point.

Definitely teach him stick! Very necessary to making him a man. I hate it when you run into a grown ass man that can't! Or change a tire... :muscleflexing:

That's a perfect first car. Learn to drive stick, who cares if it gets a little banged up, and too small to carry too many people around in. I'd get that thing in a heartbeat.

This. Plus it keeps your kid from texting and driving. Not enough driver feedback is necessary with modern cars. No wonder people are always looking down at their phones. They have two pedals and a steering wheel to manipulate and that's it. Fuck that.

As many standard transmission vehicles as I have owned, I would still hate driving one in San Francisco on those hills with all that traffic. Your son will be an awesome driver after learning though.

Driving a manual in SF is a skill in itself.

I think this is a great starter truck. Other than the paint, it looks fairly straight. Would be a good truck for learning basic vehicle maintenance. Hell, he could even learn to do some paint and body.

What he said, just make sure title is good because that's a 89-95. The 22RE motor is solid, parts can be found anywhere and really easy to maintain. Timing chain is probably the biggest service item in these older trucks.

Driving in San Francisco in general is a skill in itself. I was just there this morning to drop some parts off. Try parallel parking a Tacoma on a busy SF street without someone honking or yelling at you.

Oh and the people who cut you off. It's always the goddamn taxi drivers. So arrogant.
