Yep, had that on my truck when I bought it. Had to buy a new latch assembly and replace it. Wasn't too hard.

So I brought my ext. cab to Maaco for a quote to repaint the whole body since my clearcoat is failing and failing fast. I got quoted at $999 for the paint, and an additional $500 for some minor body work, taxes, fees, etc. That's a total of $1,500 to repaint the truck. I got quoted by a real dependable body shop in San Francisco and they wanted $7,000.

Before you give me the speech about "Macco sucks! They don't even strip and sand or prepare it right yada yada yada" I know. But this Maaco is one of the highest rated ones in California, even rated higher than other private body shops. The corrosion is eating through my roof and it's going to start rusting soon if I don't fix it. The guy told me it would last me maybe five years if I take care of it. The process he recommended to me was the "Urethane + IC" package for $999.95. All in all the quote includes the "Urethane + Integrated Clear", "Universal Sealer", minor body work (I backed into a Chevy), and all fees and taxes. Out of the 6 package tiers they have, this was #4 with the next highest being a $1,000 more which is their base & clear coat package.

Should I go through with it? When I went in to get a quote I parked next a Tesla Model S that was repainted by them, I couldn't even tell it wasn't the factory paint.

That rock thrown up by the tractor trailer on the interstate chips $7,000 paint jobs same as $1,500 ones.

For me, it's a truck not some classic Sunday driver so the $1,500 option would be my choice. I'd be scared to drive it if I had much more invested in paint.

I bought mine at Conicelli, they have them for $124-ish.

I used MAACO when I repainted mine....and have no regrets...now if I was putting my truck in car/truck shows then yes I would have went to a real body/paint shop, but who are we kidding we use these things like they are meant to. Do it! You will be happy saving the extra money

Which package did you go for? How is it compared to the factory paint?

Have you thought about just getting the truck wrapped? My paint on my truck is still in great condition, but if it were to ever get really bad like how your describing, im gonna wrap in in Cement Grey like the TRD Pro color.

I only replaced the left rear, but it is smooth as silk now. The only downside is that I broke the window switch when I was taking the door apart, so I have to replace that. Still haven't gotten around to it.

Wraps are great if your gonna change it frequently. We have wrapped vehicles for work and after some time in the sun they are hammered, and to get the wrap off is extremely horrible. It might initially be a savings, but when you account in the fact the wrap is a temporary solution, a fresh paint job cannot be beat....

I see. I thought wraps are made to last few years. Wasn't sure how long they lasted.

Ehh. I had everyone tell me to bedliner it. IMHO I think bedliner only belongs in the bed of a truck. Maybe LineX since it's not as coarse as LineX, but it's even more expensive than a traditional paint coat.
I like the traditional look of a good shiny paint job. How much does wrapping it cost?

I guess it all depends on where the vehicle is...and where it is parked daily (garage vs. outside) the sun in Hawaii is pretty harsh. I would imagine you could get a few years out of a wrap in good climates....but I would hate to have to remove it, when we removed a few from the cars we had at work they were F:censored:ed.

Paint for the win.....besides if your getting body work done, I doubt car wrap businesses' even venture to do that.

Wraps here....start at $500, but that's probably for a prius size vehicle :rofl:
