    Agree with some of this...

CR is pretty specific and the multitude of test results & methods are detailed enough for easy understanding even tho OPs linked story missed it.

CR does in fact break down problem catagories & those catagories are further defined in another part of the results area. As far as reliability, the results are statistical driven by owners of the product.

The vehicle ranking is different. It's a broader evaluation and certainly more dependent on buyer preference as it rates items which may or may not be a priority to an individual buyer. Take me or maybe any other Tacoma buyer, I don't place a high priority on how quiet the vehicle is or how close the seat is to the floor and the limited space really isn't an issue for me at 5-9 & 150 pounds. Those rankings certainly don't get the same priority from me as the statistical data in the reliabilty portion.

... until they have a problem, do an internet search, and find TW.

Where do you live? I just pulled my cargo trailer at the max of almost 3k pounds and had no issues. I had a 1 ton Chevy prior so I'm used to big power. I will say I have added sumosprings which do make a big difference in the vehicles behavior when towing. I don't like how they ride, unless I have a trailer hooked up though.

I agree. Their tech data is usually spot on. Unfortunately their opinion on immeasurable criteria, seat comfort for example, is just an opinion.

Everything has recalls, food, kids strollers, coffee makers, on & on. Why should vehicles be any different. I'm glad they admit a problem & work on a fix. Love my truck, pull 5000-5500lbs, trailer weight included, at least once a month, does the job, no complaints,ECT on. Pulls as good as any other gas V6 I've driven.

Wait until the recall notices actually go out and the large majority of Tacoma owners unaware of Tacoma World start searching for answers then you will start seeing the true magnitude of owner issues. No matter how you look at it basic systems are being compromised. These issues should not be happening.

I am a CR subscriber. Many of their reviews and reports have value. When it comes to vehicles you have to take what they say with a grain of salt. I have read so many reviews and ratings on different vehicles and looked at their complaints. I can't count how many times I read their complaints and looked at the vehicle and thought WTF did you expect? I bet if they tested a bulldozer the report would complain it was slow and noisy and tends to push dirt instead of driving over it.

If you want to lap up everything CR says go ahead. I am still trying to figure out how CR rates a brand new redesign high on reliability then ranks a redesign that has been out a full year lower based on absolutely no recalls, no reported flaws or issues. There seems to be a lot of information missing at times or conclusions that don't match up based on the data they provide.

When it comes to vehicles I read actual issues and recalls and make my own conclusions as theirs seem to be all over the place and inconsistent.

Well, the second recall certainly didn't disprove Consumer Reports negative recommendation

I drove my "new-to-me last October '09 with 139k miles on it" 500 miles today, from Saint Augustine to Venice FL and back--furthest yet I have driven it in one day--ran like a top had no vibration, sluggishness, or any other issues--got 21.5 mpg. My advice to younger people--do not buy a new model of anything, wait a couple/three years for things to settle in and let someone else deal with the "shake-down" cruise...

I think shebuddgets was more correct in their review of the Taco in that they found it wrinkles your dress more so as you get in and out of the seat than the Ridgeliner.

I think the big question here is: Does Toyota monitor forums or social media? Most major corporations do, and have marketing people dedicated to that task. I know on at least one GM forum, a GM rep will chime in and offer assistance on complaints.

I really hope Toyota is paying attention to internet gossip and starts addressing the main problem with some different transmission options.

    Working now a list

When I had my F150 Ford had reps in the forums and would assist people with issues.

It worked pretty good, they helped me out once.
