I usually use thread sealant. Never had issues with Teflon tape and brass though.

Still a good idea to use dope on the threads of a union. Helps lube the threads and prevents galling.
The main way a pipe thread seals is because it is a tapered thread. Dope helps make it easier to tighten to get a good mechanical seal and acts as a secondary sealant.

If it were NPT MAYBE... but NPT still leaks with no teflon.

Unions its still good to use at minimum teflon... max effectiveness is pipe dope or "smurf sperm" as we call it

Ehhh. Dope and terflon are both a lube. NPT with leak without the application of one or the other. But neither dope or teflon are actually a sealer as you stated. Both just a LUBE

weird. It is required not to use teflon on fuel and oil systems because it breaks down and gets into the system according to the CG. (Overprotective) same with pipe dope

I can see not using anything on that set up. Constant on and off would mean spending more time wrapping Teflon than filling. Lol.
Same thing with the Cascade system we used to fill SCBA tanks. Never used anything, and those were filled to 4500 psi.

Gasoila. Awesome shit. Paste form. Works with any fuel type including propane and CNG. Used it on all my fuel fittings on my dually.
