Good morning. Tired long day short night. New dog and old dog both intact alpha males. Having a friend over later today to help me let them both in the same space. In case have to run to the vet he can help. For now they are each side of gates. New guy is younger and smaller so will end up on bottom he actually just wants to play. When he isn't trying to mark inside the house lot of training to do yet, but good dog. 2.5 year old is serious. Will take some time.

Hate ticks with a passion. I have Lyme and every dog I've ever had has had Lyme by age of 1. Except the new guy from Texas, going to try a new pill the vet has instead of Frontline plus which is worthless. And going to do heartworm pills all year I've seen mosquitoes in below zero temps here. Another little bastage.

I spray my yard and wood clothes with this. Including underwear and socks. Then I take a bath in DEET it helps a lot.

I thought the fireants had put a hurting on ticks in Texas? Must be just some areas. Don't forget the chiggers although NC and Va. were the worst for them when I hunted those areas.

My yard is getting bad too. I used to treat the yard pretty heavy with diazinon but after awhile didn't want to hurt all the other insects around also. At this point about ready to declare war and nuke them all.

And I agree, having lived in the Tampa Bay Area for 35 years (Clearwater, Pinellas Park, Gulfport) before moving to rural Kentucky.

    Morning Mike

I'm sure you've got it covered with the dogs, but :fingerscrossed: they "norm" quickly without doing any real damage.

I'm not caught up (10 pages behind), but had to share the latest scam I got on my work phone...the warrant for your arrest scam. I looked it up and it's coming around pretty good. The message they left is hilarious! I cannot believe anyone one, ketchup consumer or not, would fall for that one.

I guess I can play the bug / snake game

We have ticks couple types I have lost count how many I have taken off me and the dogs. Deer and Brown Dog mostly , Brown Recluse yep got bit by one little bastard, black widow yep (funny story about that with my youngest remind me sometime) , Snakes yeah mostly harmless supposedly we have Moc's here I have never seen one and neither have any of the other handlers with as much time as we have spent in the woods working or they hunting who knows. And yes we do have fire ants here now too came in , in plants and wood mulch so I hear but they are not prevalent I have only seen one nest and napalm fixed it right up. You all saw my wasp nest I killed if not scroll back you will find it but what we do have here is the Red Velvet Ant :

" Cow killer ant, also known as the red velvet ant, is the common name for Dasymutilla occidentalis. Although these common names suggest this insect is an ant, it is actually a solitary wasp, so it does not live in a colony. Identification. The female is wingless, hairy and colored red and black."

    Red-Velvet-Ants-Facts-Giant-Male-Sting-and-Diet-Photo-courtesy-Jason-Wilcox-McDavid-Florida.jpg

I did not know what it was the first one I saw but I kind of figured the bright red said do not screw with it so it died though it took a couple of stomps to do so. I heard about them later on a radio show here after I stomped the one I saw . I am pretty glad I did not screw with it lol . According to the show folks Dept of Natural Resources the sting is painful enough to make a cow moo and run off .. I have seen dairy cows rub against barb wire and lean on electric fences so yeah if it can do that it dies by fire if I see one lol. Though I have been here since 92 and only have seen a half dozen or so over the years.

You ever try the muzzle both thing and you are the biggest alpha no one gets hurt and point is made ? Been there a few times took I think the longest on my dads shepherd and mine that I had years ago. They got to the understanding if he or I said knock it off they did after that hand feeding biscuits next to each other etc they never really tangled again. A bit more draconian then what a lot of folks want to do but it did work in a shorter amount of time.

Yeah I expect the dominance thing will take less than 5 sec. to work out. Looks like the dog I've had for 2.5 years since a pup has some jealously issues, that is what worries me right now. Making a lot of growling sounds I've never heard before showing teeth, etc. when the new young guy gets around me. Damn kids.

In North Central Pa. we call them Flatlanders. They call us woodchucks because there might be a number of people there that couldn't afford to go to the dentist and more than one person doesn't have a full set of teeth. Got lots of stories.

There was a store\post office\gas station where one of my friends worked pumping gas back in the day and a VW bug pulled in for gas with one of Shaw brothers donkeys strapped on it and a doe tag attached. Dave asked where he shot it and the guy said he wasn't telling there was a whole herd of deer there and he was going back next year. Dave asked if he could take a picture of it and the guy said sure and posed with it and his NJ plates showing in the picture also. Wasn't hard for the Shaw brothers to bust him.

Maine has some large deer but racks suck on most of them so bragging rights go to weight not rack. Dr. Gary Alt started antler restrictions in Pa. and it has helped with larger racks. On the NY border there are a few good sized deer. The Northern Tier of Pa. and Southern Tier of NY have some of the best whitetail deer hunting in the country.

Shot this guy on the hill behind the racetrack in Chemung.

But Mn. holds the world record for weight, some of the whitetails here I have been tempted to quarter instead of drag out of the woods. And the corner of Wi. Mn. and Iowa holds more record book racks than any other place. Which is why Pope & Young moved their HQ here from Wa. State.

I see some real big pigs around here.
