You can't have one without the other. Though I have to say I'm a whiskey guy, usually.

    Here is my zen:

Mine says it should arrive tomorrow. I've got a butt in the fridge i will throw it on saturday night if it gets here in time. And chicken thighs sound pretty good, may do some before or after the butt.

    Nice set up!

*crosses fingers that USPS gets there in time for the butt*

The thighs will be really good with it, too, though.

Yall come on out to Atlanta... We have some pretty decent sized bbq comps out here. Last one I did was Atlanta BBQ Festival, Myron Mixon always comes out for that one.

We were "A rubdown and a smoke", think we took 2nd in sauce, 3rd in ribs, 4th in butt, and 3rd overall that year in the backyard bracket. We did it on two large and one XL bge's so we weren't competing with the big boys and the big rigs. Overcooked the chicken or we would have placed higher.

That's awesome. Congrats on the finish! Competition cooking is sooo much work, but a lot of fun. After a comp, all I want to eat for a week is fried food and pizza .

Are you a DIY person at all? If so, build an Ugly Drum Smoker. It's all we use anymore.

If buying, give some expectations (budget, capacity, how much you feel like "tinkering") and I'm sure the peanut gallery will have plenty of recommendations.

In for 2 lbs, paid the monkey is in the banana truck.

I'd ask how many carbs, I try not to use any sugar but sometimes you just got to say the hell with it. I don't want to know or care. Smoke removers all carbs anyhow right?!

Jealous of some of the cooking areas you all have. Mine is buried in snow much of the year, but doesn't stop me or even slow me down. Although I draw the line at 20 below zero or colder.

Im a DIY but have too many of those things going so I think I'll buy for my first one.

I'm thinking charcoal over gas or electric but open to anything. Budget is open but best bang for my buck is what I'd be going after...I'm a buy once cry once kind of guy.

I have a WSM, works great for me. I have the small size, but I have learned to get the most out of my rack area, 6 racks of ribs is my limit.

I have you down! Thanks a bunch. I've cooked in the *cold*, but never have to deal with that much snow. You, sir, are an inspiration for the rest of us BBQ cooks.

Man, it is hard to go wrong with a Weber Smokey Mountain. Those things are fantastic.
