I don't trust anyone to do my oil changes anymore. As simple as it is they always seem to mess something up. They usually strip the drain plug, but beyond that last time i took my bimmer to a place to get it done they never put the oil cap back on and i didn't notice until the next day when i filled up on gas and went to check my oil. It was a midas that did it, i called up screaming and they didn't even seem to care. That was over 3 years ago and i will never let anyone change my oil again

Good to see most people can change their own oil, better that so few use jiffy lube type places

These trucks make oil changes very convenient. I've been using a fumoto valve for over 2years, making it even more convenient.

As previously stated, the Tacoma is so easy to do an oil change on. Do it yourself. Now my Sentra, I take that in because it is a pain in the ass.

I just did my first oil change today at 1600 miles. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Why don't all cars have their oil filter up top like our Tacomas. It would make life a lot easier because the filter on my F-150 was practically impossible to get to and I could barely get my hand to fit in there.
My only problem is that the oil splashed everywhere when it hit the pan. Anybody have any ideas on how to minimize this?

I also put on this drain valve, no more having to take the drain plug out.

With the height of my truck vs my previous cars, and how much faster the oil drains, I was just making a mess with regular oil pans. The oil would splash and the pan couldn't take the oil as fast as it was draining.

I bought this thing from wally world last time I did my oil change. It's 10.5" tall so the opening is much closer to the drain plug. I don't need to worry about the oil splashing into an oil pan, and less chance of the wind blowing oil all over the place while it's draining. Also has a smaller opening for easy emptying. Paid less than $5 for it. (sorry for sounding like an infomercial)

I gotta say though, even though changing the oil on these trucks isn't hard, changing the oil on my car wasn't messy at all, and was probably easier, except getting under it.

sweet, I would also recommend a synthetic filter if you are already using mobil 1. they sell 5 quarts and a filter at autozone for 29.99. That is a sale price so watch for it.

Me. Every single time I have ever had it done even by a "mechanic," something has been wrong. How f'ing hard is it to do this?

Whoops, sorry, I see that this is posted under 2nd gen. Because, uh, this topic is so specific to 2nd gens. Uh, yeah.:jerkoff:

Are you sure they are torquing your drain bolt on the the proper specs, changing the oil filter, letting ALL of the old oil drain out completely, tightening ALL of the bolts for your skid plate down. They are missing something I know it, everyone cuts corners at their job. It could be their Friday and they just wanna get done with your truck and finish it extra fast and cut a corner. It just doesn't make any sense to pay 30k for a truck and let some speedy lube "specialist" touch it. You 2nd gen guys should be doin it your self, the filter is right on top and easy to access. You can put mobil1 and a synthetic filter for the same price (30bucks) as it costs for you to take it to get conventional oil. neway that is my thought on oil.

Is anyone using the Big Boy TopSider to drain their oil? I don't even have to get under the car. I just suck the oil out through the dipstick tube. It works great.
