thanks man, I'm lazy. I'll look through your comments. Most the stuff I've read so far has pointed me in the direction of MIG.

You want to read some good things about welding take your time and read through all the posts in here.

Granted some dumb things some Funny things but lots of serious things as well.

Granted just getting into welding with no prior experience i kinda have to agree toward MIG to start .

Just one word you really Don`t want to go as cheap as possible save some Money invest in something that will earn you extra money not frustrate you

Right now Lincoln seems to be going after the lower end Market with some Great Prices

A real shame your in Florida I would love to have a Motivated Young Helper that Likes Toyota`s looking to learn how to weld Since my last helper went off to Arizona State

$22 at Home Depot and now I have myself a 15' 14-30r to 6-50p cord. This will get me from my utility room to my garage.

Just be real careful those male plugs tend to loosen up if your plugging and unplugging quite often!!

If you lose a leg things don`t work and right away " My welder is broke"

    Good to know.

Thankfully the 14-30r in my utility room is not being used by my dryer (gas dryer running on 110v). I plan on keeping the cord plugged in and hanging it up.

    • One 6-50r
    • One 14-30p
    • 15' of 10/3 SJOOW cord

    Cool.

I made a mistake. Both of the plugs together cost me $20. I bought the cord last week and I forgot it cost $25. So my total cost was actually $45.

My dad called me this mornin and said the wire wasnt feeding so i went to investigate. After we got the torch tip apart and could tell there wanst any issue there i thought i would just take the lead loose, and there was about 18" of coiled up in the spaced where the lead clicks in. The set screw had apparently backed out enough to cause some dead space and once it started kinking it was all over haha. Also had a little rust on the wire we had to spool thru for it to feed properly once we got everything put back together. Spent twice as long workin on the welder as we did welding up the hay trailer.

Got my pop's new muffler installed on Thursday. I cut off too much of the exhaust before the muffler so we welded in a coupler.

    Slowly getting better.

Sounds like your wire feed tension was cranked to tight!!

The wire burnt back to the tip after it cools some it pops free so you saw nothing on that end

Mean while with the trigger pulled the drive rolls keep feeding .

    Causing a nice bird nest

People tend to try and fix all feed problems by cranking down on the drive roll tension .

Steering box mount in my new front frame section from my SAS last year. It hasn't broken off yet so i must have done something right. That upper tube got the gaps filled and a 3/16s fish plate welded over the top of it. This was all flux core with my hobart 140.

Learn to weld with a fixed shade first if you plan on doing work in the field. I have a jackson safety 4"x5" with a gold lens way better clarity than any auto dark. You dont need a special cover lens so you can afford to change them regularly. It doesn't matter how good you are if you cant see you will struggle, set yourself up for success. A autodark will inevitably start blinking at the worst possible time. My two cents.

Funny thing with my eyes I find it all most impossible to see with the Gold tinted lens.

One needs to find the combination that works for you

I hate to say it, but the HF big window auto dark was the one I could see out of the best. it was a fixed shade version. Not sure if they even make that one any more.

I've heard that from a few people. Definitely have to find what works for you. The first time I used a gold lens it was like watching a movie in HD for the first time. I would love to find a legit Cobalt 10#.

I also noticed that a lot of people struggling to weld have vision problems and have never had their eyes checked or are too vain to wear glasses.

I used a $120 wens lense a few times which are blue but wasn't a huge fan of it. Not a fan of gold either. I actually like the green :anonymous: but I prefer my Miller 2x4 auto shade in my fiberglass hood over a fixed lense. It doesn't flash as bad as people say once you learn where to keep your head to not block the sensors.

It's all just whatever you feel most comfortable with and can weld best with. I have a $300 Lincoln Viking 3500 hood that sits in my box because I actually like the feel and weight of my cut down fiber metal hood.

Try em all and find out which one you like most.
