I apologize if this is talked about somewhere else but I'm brand new to this forum as of today since I'm a brand new Tacoma owner as of today! I've owned an accord, vw golf and jeep renegade all in a MT but the stick never shook really at all in those vehicles. I've never driven any truck in a MT so maybe it's normal but can someone put my mind at ease? It definitely doesn't slip into gear as easily as those previously mentioned cars I've had and you can visibly see the stick shaking in any gear and most definitely feel it if you hold it. I'm hoping it's completely normal but can anyone shed light?

There have been other threads on this subject, try to do a search. I'm too lazy to do it tonight.

The shaking is totally normal and after a year of driving my 16 trd sport MT, it shifts very easy. When new the shifting was very tight, especially 1st and 2nd.

Yeah, today is day one lol, I feel like the dudes at the dealerships have very rarely, if ever, driven the 3rd gen MT tacomas though. It will go into gear but if you keep holding the stick you'll feel it shaking quite a bit. I've never driven a manual truck, maybe theyre just rougher than cars?

It's normal your other cars had shifters connected by cables, this shifter goes right in the top of the transmission and tends to move with the drivetrain. Mine has done it for the 22 years it's been assembled haha

Normal. Any stick will shake when directly attached to transmission. Mine does it and after awhile you don't even pay any attention.

For future reference if you have a question that you think could have been asked before by one of the half million people who own a 3rd gen, just Google it. For this stick shake question for example, go to Google, type in "3rd gen Tacoma manual transmission shifter shake." The answers are there. Always preface any question about your truck with "3rd gen Tacoma..." and you will usually get an answer that is from here!

With regard to questions asked about the third gen tacoma, sometimes answers from here aren't what anyone needs haha

Think of it like a fun meter. When it's really going, you know you're getting more fun.

It's how you Google it lol. That prefix "3rd gen Tacoma..." makes all the difference.

    all tore up already
Every manual transmission shifter will move seperate from the interior of your car since it is not attached to the interior of your car. It is attached to your transmission which is attached to your engine and the whole assembly floats with rubber mounts. Ever seen a shaker hood in action? Similar but different i know. My bmws moved (slightly) my rx8 moved a lot because the mounts were worn until i replaced with delrin bushings then nothing moved but the whole car vibrated like a sex toy.

Tldr; its normal charistic of a manual transmission

As a side note, for a truck, the shifting in the tacos is smooth as butter too. Try shifting in my 89 F150- looks like you're jacking off a fossilized Trex in comparison. Only issue I really have is when it won't go into gear at all, but I ride motorcycles that do that shit all the time. Just slowly let the clutch out while applying pressure on the gate until it goes into gear and you're good.

Welcome to TacomaWorld. This is a great place with a lot of good people and good information. It is also a place with a lot of clowns and negative people. Try your best to laugh with the clowns and ignore the negative ones. And yes the stick on these trucks moves a lot, but think about it, would you prefer that the cab moved and much as that stick does?

    TLDR?

I asked the question because I've driven alot of manuals and never ever had the shifter shake at all, which was explained by someone earlier why that was the case. So I would argue it's not a normal characteristic of a manual transmission but maybe for trucks in particular it is. None the less besides the guy that told me to google it everyone was very helpful lol
