probably will help rev hang a LOT, seeing as we can get rid of the reason why its there. Toyota tuned the engine to do that on purpose for EPA reasons. If an engine goes into a lean running state (like it does when you let off the throttle to shift normally, albeit briefly) NO2 emissions go through the roof during that phase of engine operation. If they tune the motor so that it no longer goes into a lean state at that point then NO2 emissions improve.

Well hopefully they will get the test truck on the dyno this week so we can get some results...

    none yet/none planned! It's perfect!
Sorry if this has already been answered but will this help throttle response on the manuals also?

I'm also interested in improving the throttle response and 1-2 shifts in my manual. I thought maybe it was the nature of the Atkinson cycle but based on what the OP is saying a lot of it could be torque management. I hope that's the case. I've spoken to other tuners about this truck and supposedly with the stock tune you can only get 67% throttle opening Talk about robbing top end power.

"We have complete control over all Throttle transition maps, Direct maps that control effective "target" throttle based on accelerator pedal (which we can directly enhance for throttle response)
    - Throttle limitation control maps"
    Hopefully that's what this means?

I would buy this if it does all those things and there is no decrease in gas mileage. That is the deal breaker for me.

    Im pumped to see results

    Heres my .02

Throttle is restricted so much that, even when you mash the pedal, its almost disregards your input and does its own thing, not like any other car or truck Ive driven..

No power till 3500rpm... its not linear.. its like a turbo was on the truck already and jerks your truck when you reach 3500- not that you get all the power then, there is another jump around 5000rpm

peak power is not till 5000/5500 rpm? who drives a truck at that range...

I would love to see this truck just get 3 things....

responsive pedal, linear torque/hp essp at low end, bring peak power down if possible

I wouldnt even ask for more power... just to be able to "actually" use what the truck already has... any extra hp/torque would be a bonus

They say it will pass emissions unless you make other mods

I dont doubt that at all.Was responding to the Texas does not have emission testing.I live 35 miles from a metromess and we still have to test.

ummm...anyone who wants peak power. The better question is Why do people lug this engine down and then complain that it has no power?

    Also. One last request!!

They have kept the idle at 500 rpm. But at 800-900 it's smoother and when the AC kicks on it wouldn't be such a drain on the system.... mine will surge between 500 and 900 when the compressor kicks on. I think that would sacrifice very little mpg for much better performance when the ac engages

You have an M/T. It's dif in the auto. We don't get to choose. It's like all or nothing kinda deal with our hp/torque

I think Toyota has attempted to create the flattest power curve that they could for this truck with this engine and that the midrange won't see a big improvement when compared to the potential gains at low and high RPMs. This is just based off of previous discussions and dyno graphs that I've seen posted above and the dyno from AFE for their CAI.

I wish that the power drop from 3-3.5k wasn't as noticeable but the AFE intake seems to amplify this drop and makes the kick at 3500 more dramatic. Hopefully a tune designed to work with the available intake systems will smooth out this power curve.

S isn't like a sport mode that you'd have in another car. I would say that it's deceptive. It's more for regulating the top gear the engine will shift to. I have noticed that it drives the same in S and D. It just lets me select the gear.

Ect will hold Revs longer and not allow the otto to shut down but then it shifts like crap and it's not smooth at all.

I think people are looking for a middle ground is all.

It's not like you need peak power all the time.

Linear power.... that's what I'm after.

Like a bell curve that builds. Not a shotgun blast that only gives you power at 3500 exactly and sits there till 5000. It's so strange how the power curve works in these autos.
