Neither of us are going anywhere, also financially it's advantageous currently given our tax status.

 

Not to sound like a tight ass or free loader..

But that's about it.

We decided to start our family pretty much right after we got engaged. So, the next 9 months she was pregnant. Not a problem for us as far as vanity goes (pregnant in wedding pictures), but being that it was the furthest from a shotgun wedding - not the look we wanted to have.

She stayed home for 15 months with our daughter after she was born, so it was my income paying all of the bills - 2 vehicles (1 loan), maintenance, a new mortgage (we got keys to our first home the same day as our first real ultrasound, took us almost 18 months to find a house), and then the growing family expenses that come with a baby.

Last year she worked only 3 months or so, and I'm not sure she made even $1200, so the spare money for an extremely modest wedding isn't exactly there, and it isn't something we are dying to do.

She has a beautiful, super expensive engagement ring. I have her, and soon our 2 kids.

Life is good, and in the meantime, so is the financial side. Being that we'd be paying a penalty to be legally married, it's not convenient until she's working more and/or I have a new job that pays more.

Insurance is.. absurdly expensive, and while I lose money during tax time for not being married, the overall benefit is still greater.

 

Aint that some shit that it works out that way! Your family is your family though, and some piece of paper isn't the thing that seals it all together. As long as you two are happy and things are working out for you, that's all that really matters.

I was in the opposite boat. My wife and I met while I was stationed in VA, but she got accepted to the military medical school and got sent to MD, and I just happened to be up for orders and got sent to FL. Unless I wanted to wait 3 years in FL and cross my fingers to get MD for my next duty station, we needed to get married so the military would move me up to be with her. Otherwise I'd just be shit outta luck.

 

Too much maths ... I'm gonna a go eat my ice cream and get a shower ... maybe in that order ... maybe not.

Fortunately sacrifices like your own allow me to have more options.

Thanks for the support!! She's the real hero of the two. Works long, shitty hours and constantly studying. She'll be a great doctor in a few years. I on the other hand just stare at a computer screen for twelve hours and browse TW most the time

 

I'd have a hard time choosing order too.

What kind of ice cream? If it has strawberries or cherries in it.. then ice cream first, I think.

If not.. maybe it can wait.
