If I wanted to pull parts from a JY, what should I be looking for? Specifically I am trying to figure out what models I should look out for so that I can pull the locker to fit my 2000 Taco.

You will need the complete housing from a TRD Tacoma also.
You have an 8.4 and the TRD's are 8.0.

    Good luck.

My code is B06A. I thought that was an 8, not an 8.4?

Look at the axle from behind the truck... if the drain plug is on the PS of the housing, 8.4, if on the DS, 8.0.

Technically both the 8.0" and "8.4" use an 8" ring gear. People refer to it as an 8.4" to differentiate between it and the older 8" axle. The 3rd members are not compatible.

So, do I have to do a full axle swap? What year Tacoma (or 4Runner if possible) can I search for?

Yes, you need the whole axle from a TRD tacoma 95-04. You can tell if it has a locker because it will have a big motor/actuator attached to the 3rd member on the front driver side.

If you're feeling lazy, you can just add an ARB Locker and it'll be 100% more reliable. Just an FYI if you didn't know.

Nah, not feeling lazy, just don't want to take that big of a hit to my wallet. Thanks though.

You also need to match your front diff gears. So pulling front diff might also be a good idea.

Roger. I was planning on re-gearing at this point already. Thank you!

I don't think you're gonna save much money on a full axle.

Especially when he regears. He's only gonna save a couple hundred bucks unless he finds a really good deal, and even then the e lockers suck imo.

Also note that the e-locker itself was prone to failure on some cases. There are several threads on rebuilding them on this site. But my point is it would suck to buy one, and the entire axle assembly, just to find the locker is toast. Would probably want to at least test it before paying for it. I think it is just a matter of pulling it off the 3rd and making sure it is operational.

I agree, you hear about a lot of failures on the trail. I would just do an ARB and be done with it.
