Hey all, I have been reading these forums for a while, just haven't posted anything. I wanted everyone to know that Toyota recently lost a lawsuit and inspections for the frame rust recall will be opening back up in august. I know there are a lot of guys that missed the date due to not being notified. I was lucky enough to bring mine in for the recoat 2 years ago. I'm over at the service shop now and they are replacing my frame due to holes and cracks in it. The guy that runs the shop just told me that they are opening the recall back up for everyone in august. If you haven't had yours checked I recommend contacting Toyota and doing it.

That's great news! What are the requirements to be considered for a frame replacement? I don't recall the cutoff year...

So I should be able to call up my local Toyota dealer & have them inspect my frame so it is documented? Even though my frame was already replaced once. Opinions please. Thanks!

How long were you driving your truck with the frame looking like that?

I am going back at 5pm and I will ask him for it on paper. I asked if he was talking about the 2nd generation law suit and he specifically said no. My frame has been like that for about a year. They did there real rust proof spat on it in 2014 and I think it made it worse. I work for the sanitation department so I am parked around salt all winter, and in the summer I drive on the beach so more salt on the frame

I'm pretty certain that the most recent lawsuit was for 2005-2010 Tacomas....if 1st gens are included that would be awesome but I wouldn't get too excited just yet. 1st gens have been out of production for a long time now and Toyota already had to do a 15 year warranty on them (provided criteria were met)

it is my understanding that this is not "bithcin" as is sounds... I have read where the repair wait period is months and that Toyota does not pay 100% for everything. Your springs are shot... guess who pays, your gas tank is shot, guess who pays. Toyota is not going to let an "unsafe" vehicle leave the shop.

I've already replaced the gas tank once. Should not have 2 new gas tanks in a 10 year span. I have made several repairs on this truck due to rust and plan on going to corporate with all those too. But for now I want to see how this plays out. I am very good at talking to customer service and getting shit done. i also heard that anything they touch to replace the frame and can't put back on right/safe they replace

Toyota made the frames were they don't drain properly. All vehicles frames rust in that environment but none as bad as Toyota's. So there is blame on Toyota's part.

If I recall correctly, Toyota turned around and sued the maker of the frames (Dana?)...so I guess the fault ultimately lies with them? :notsure:

I wish Toyota made their frames out of 1/2 inch thick I-beams. It is easy to protect (spray), and if it rusts, it would take 50 years to go through it. And if it weights a bit more? Who cares. People put twice heavy skid plates and bumpers on it and Tacoma doesn't complain.

I always admired Russian trucks - nobody cares about rust protection, same for railroad tracks.
