I have a wifey, 1 kiddo and 1 furry friend - my Sport has been a great family car. Do you need a pick-up bed? If so, I highly recommend it - get the MT. I'm 5-11 - plenty of room for a adult or even more room for a care seat or two. If you do not need a pick-up bed, get another 4R.

A TSB is NOT a recall.

Back in the day my wife and I raised our kids in a 2001 DC, no problems when they were young, and no problem when they hit their teens, just moved my seat up a bit. We are all between 6' and 6' 1" not much more room in our 2016, just a little more room it seems like....
but for anyone in or around that 6'4" range, probably a little small. Go with Tundra then, my .2

Recent TRD Pro buyer here, I didn't plan on doing any suspension upgrades so the TRD Pro was a perfect solution for me. Plus having the little things that are "exclusive" to that model made it more special for me. The con is that they're really rare so finding or getting the truck to your liking will be a challenge

I would wait until the 2018 comes out. Or even the 2019.

The 2018 Camry is coming with 301hp using a 3.5 V6. The TRD pro Tacoma puts out 278hp with a 3.5 V6. Toyota publically annouced that the 2018 camry car is singling a new direction for Toyota.

Maybe the TRD superchargers will come back? Maybe there is going to be a new Turbocharged engine coming from the new Supra?

I'm keeping the 4Runner to be the family car. The Tacoma would be my truck to get to and from work. We want a small sized truck with a small bed because we have rental properties that we need to maintain.
I like the pro model for the looks and a leather option is a must for me along with heated seats, and lane departure warning. With that being said, only 2 models I'd consider are premium and TRD Pro. TRD Pro just looks that much better.
As far as taking it off road, that will be a few times a year if we decide to take it instead of the 4Runner when we go camping.

We know that the tundra is probably same price and a lot bigger, but we cannot justify the mpg it gets, and it's just way too big to clunk around town for us.

If you're keeping the runner as your family car then buy the Tacoma for those needs. I don't think the Pro is worth the extra cost, but if you have the money and want it, go for it. I love my 3rd gen and have had no problems with it.

If you are maintaining your rental properties, I would assume you are good with money. If so, Why are you buying new just to drive back and forth to work? Used is your friend

The tsb where driveline shakes scares me. Also the one where people are having to rebuild the diff. Scary. I'll dig around a bit more, but man, I've wanted a taco for years!

'18 will probably be out around October time.. don't know if the wife and I can sacrifice not getting a second vehicle before then..

Used tacoma? Trust me I looked. First of all the resale on these trucks is so good, it's impossible to get a good deal on used. Secondly, finding a pro model would be next to impossible that is in cement or quicksand color.

Don't let the recalls scare you. There's so many people who don't have issues. You just will always hear more about the negatives of things rather than the positives. Take for example @smitty99 (not trying to call you out bud, and you're in this thread already so don't get mad at me!) has had numerous issues with his Tacoma and very rightfully so is upset with the 3rd gen models. Whereas someone like myself who hasn't had issues loves it and I don't make a bunch of statements about it unless specifically answering a question like in here. It's a good truck. If you keep it stock you'll get fairly decent MPGs, I was getting 20-23 in mine before I modded it. Do what makes you happy.

Ahh you want a PRO? Sorry, I missed that. I think you need to sit in a 4 door Tacoma and see if you have room for the whole family.

    I was the same way.

I had a second gen tank (tank in a good way). This year traded it in for 2017. Basically, I saw the 3rd gen driving around, and I liked the agressive new 2016 styling. I have a new kid coming, so I need a four door imediately. I just pulled the trigger and bought a 2017.

I love my truck. I still like the styling. My mileage was poor at first but fuel tank averages are coming up, and are now exceeding the combined epa rating. None of the recalls affected my car. The power train is just straight up weird for a truck. The low end is very weak.

If I could do it again, I would wait.
