Thanks sir, having friends that play with camera's professionally rubs off a little haha (well, and buying their second hand gear helps too).

I love bumming second-hand high end gear off of friends lol. I haven't done it with cameras, but many other things (including truck parts )

I was looking to buy a tent but have decided to go with a hard shell tent when CVT starts to make them so any time someone wants to post up a review( I know there's some peeps out there with trial hard tops) feel free to tag me.

I'm on my second season with my Autana Ruggedized and it still looks and functions like the day I bought it. I use it a ton too. I'd buy a 3 year old tent if I knew the seller took care of it.

One of the key changes that has happened over the past few years is the addition of the Sky windows as a standard feature on all Tepui tents. Used tents may or may not include that feature depending on their age.

Any of you guys own the CVT Mt. Cayley, or the Mt. Bachelor Extended? Does it have enough room for two people, or should I go with the Mt. Shasta for an extra 8 inches. I also think one of the pluses about the Bachelor is that it can be mounted on my shell and extended over the back of my truck with the annex covering the tailgate area. Thanks in advance.

I have the Shasta. the wife and I are not big people, but I much prefer the few extra inches. The problem with having in open towards the back, is the cover will drape down and cover your bed. you will have to rig someway to roll it up and hold it in place to have access to the bed. you can always unzip the cover and remove it all together, but it will significantly add to your repack time.

This!!! Everyone forgets about the cover and I can't imagine taking it off every time. At that point, you might as well have a ground tent as far as packing time is concerned. I have the Shasta, my wife and I are small and the extra room is amazing. I've also slept three grown men in it (tightly).

It would take maybe an extra 30 seconds to slide the cover back into the track on my ARB. I don't normally remove it, just roll it up and tie it, but it wouldn't be hard.

it may be largely a function of how high off the ground the tent is. if it is cab high, it's more cumbersome. I've seen some after market straps to roll up the cover and secure it to the bottom of the tent. i like the concept of having the tent open rearward to create a canopy over the tail gate. However, I generally packup and move every day. I prefer to avoid anything that makes it more difficult to repack. Fantastic thread. If one were to read the entire string, which I have, they'd likely see every configuration imaginable. People are creative. Lot's to learn here.

I have two reasons I don't open over the rear of the truck...
Closed, my rtt is 48"x56", to open over the rear it has to be mounted to the truck a longer side to the front (and rear) and sticks out beyond the bedsides of the truck, and creates a significantly larger area of wind resistance. (1st gen taco)
In order to achieve any usable shade space, the RTT needs to be mounted as far back on the truck as possible. I'd rather carry that weight centrally on the truck rather than over and behind the rear wheels. If you keep the fold-down tailgate, that may be all you end up shading.
I did add a couple of straps so I could roll up the cover when the tent is opened, but with my annex, the cover is the missing 4th wall.. 3 sides no bottom

Hey everyone, new RTT owner here! Is there any solution to secure the tent to the bars from theft and has anyone ever heard of reports of a RTT being stolen? Its not hard for a criminal to undo 8 nuts and take the tent. Thoughts? Picture for you all!

you can buy the secure nuts from CVT and I don't know if tepui sells them or goto Fastenal and bring the bolt and see if you can get secure nuts from them possibly have to order them.

I had the Cayley until I sold it the other day to my GF's brother.

My girlfriend and I slept in it together fine for 2 years. Very comfortable. If I did it again, I'd get a bigger tent for a little more space, but it was never bad.

Sorry for the crappy picture (will snap a better one if needed) but I used two eye bolts and locked them together as 5th mounting point...51908351934__56FCD2E2-0811-455C-96B6-1C72000F9640.jpg

What did you use for sliders inside the track for your fifth point?

I called up Tepui and explained that I didn't need a complete mounting set and they sent out just the flat inserts
