If you know absolutely anything about business and marketing, then you know that coming to a forum like TW is absolutely the worst thing you can do to get "help" on a vehicle decision. The old adage "A satisfied customer will tell one person, an angry customer will tell 11 people..." is alive and well here. What you have in this forum is a lot of satisfied customers with no issues (I have none) that post in threads like "favorite colors" and "bikes and Tacomas" and such. THEN you have a customer with an issue (and there have been a few... not many comparatively speaking to the competition though) and they post the same. old. post. multiple. times. in. every. frigging. thread. Some have posted thousands of times their dis-satisfaction about the same issue. Never any real info, just they are unhappy and want everyone to know. The best thing you can do is look for the polls here.
Example: When I was looking to buy, I came here to do a bit of research. I wanted a manual transmission so I was checking it out. At the time, there was a thread on the manual transmissions hanging in a gear after being driven for a long period of time. Well, reading the posts, it seemed like EVERYONE was having that problem. After looking a little more closely though, it was a few people posting multiple times about that issue. When the poll was conducted, it was in reality less than 30% that had that issue and truthfully, knowing the technical level of most people who post here, the real answer would probably be less than 5% if it were done scientifically. I'm sure a few people had this problem but, in true TW fashion, it was blown completely out of proportion.

If you want a Tacoma, buy one. They are fine trucks and are reliable and durable. If you don't believe me, check the residual value. Oh wait... you already have lol. Could you get one with issues? Sure, but the chances of that are much less than if you bought the competition.

Last point... if you want a people hauler, get another 4Runner. They are better for hauling 3+ full size adults.

If you have the means to get one. Yes.

Had mine not a week and it's got more miles romping through the desert than on pavement. Slapped some tires 255/85/16 / tonneau cover / tint - done. No issues so far. I like not having to mod the suspension and other crap. Some pay more than a pro just in mods, trust me I used to be a mod-aholic - it can get out of hand.

Everyone is gonna tell you what to do with your money. In the end it's your choice. Enjoy!

? Been out for months!! Not many being made, but come in Barcelona red, Super white, and Cement. Two dealers near me have a Cement Pro 4R, and they are very hard to find. My Taco Pro has close to 7K on it with not any major issues to date. I do have a slight howl around 50-60 on deceleration. The air hissing noise from driver window went away about a month ago. If you can find the color you want, go for it. It's a great truck.

    Damn near identical to me.

The Pro offers the best of the OR and the Sport in one package with a warranty. It needs nothing to be off road capable for my use.

You can't build one identical cheaper.

I have too many things that require time and attention in my life and the Pro gives me the reliability, warranty and features out of the box without all the time, energy, mistakes and loss of warranty that comes along with modding.

Pro is a win IMO unless you are a heavy modder type.

    I can afford Gas.
16,000 miles and seven months. Only issues: seat belt gets wet when it rains in California. I suspect its the roof rack but replicating it has been difficult. Windshield from meteorite missile from a rock truck. Errant vibration sounds coming from seat belt and glove box. Potentially too much shit in the glove box.

    get one.

agree! i got this truck cus i wanted the stuff w/o modding, and i wanted resale.

i have modded a bit w/o lifting, and kept all the Pro stuff except the wheels.

it is totally great and I'd do it again, absolutely. 10k issue-free miles so far and loving it with the MT.

    Like, so many.
You'll be fine. I'd go OR rather than Pro unless you want that badass cement color. Having a truck is just so useful. I think it's a great choice

I took a drive into the Pro 4Runner and it's nothing like the Taco. Tundra is the same. The Taco is the best factory modded of the 3 IMO. The Pro ride is phenomenal.

I want to get a second set of wheels to have a dedicated winter setup myself, and might do a spring pack if I end up hauling enough gear around to warrant it, and down the road some armour, but factory is never gonna have that stuff and none of the Pro stuff is negated here.

But being in a 17' I experience none of the common driveline or power issues commonly complained about here.

Actually I wouldn't even think we have the same vehicle reading through many posts about drivability and power.

That being said, I make it a rule not to buy the first year of any new model. Early adopter premium is not for me. If anything, I will keep this one very close to factory and trade it in a couple years down the road if this example proves to have issues but I like the concept.

People say 3rd gen resale is good, what will the Pro be like?

Except mine has none of the mechanical problems, TSB/recalls lots of the 16s have. As in the issue was corrected at the factory before my truck was made.

Do you have a unit on a lot somewhere staked out? Where are you at and what color are you looking for?

    2017 Pro's are almost gone.

If you want one and can find one, get it. My wife drives a T4R and the taco is the Sunday morning gone to meeting and annual vacation vehicle. We have a 18 and 11 yoa kids and they grew up in this set up, no issues but the cab gets packed on vacation.

I went from a 2005 DCSB Sport to a 2017 DCSB Limited about a month ago, all recalls will be handled by the dealer prior to delivery. No issues so far, still getting use to the difference

PRO adds all offyou want plus off road upgrades out the door. Down side is no sunroof, heavier maybe less MPG. Upside is maybe higher resale vale value in the future.
