2.7 engine

What have you guys found in terms of reman engines when forced to replace?
I've got an 02 Tacoma prerunner that is using antifreeze along with regular misfire codes. Am I wrong to assume it's either a cracked head or leaking head gasket?
I'm in Anaheim California and for what it would cost for a valve job/head gasket replacement I can get a reman'd motor. What do you guys think.

i was in the same situation last year and decided to get a low mile engine instead, i did save the old engine to rebuild and have it ready.
so i would get a reman'd engine.

I have put in JDM motors. These are used motors with relativley low mileage 50k - 60k from Japan. ballpark $1600.

 

got lucky when i was shopping for an engine and found one here in JDM san leandro for 1500 low miles .
