    no, but I definitely got a free wake up call by the smoke alarm @ 3am letting me know I had a dead battery.

    haha the new house is almost 5,000 sq ft..... our townhouse is 1500sq ft

    funny how that always happens. Not a single beep, then when it does start, its in the middle of the night. I think they are pre-programmed to do that.

    believe it or not, I had this exact thought.... so I looked it up "why smoke detector batteries always die at night"

    and this was the answer from "Kidde" the company that makes the detectors:

    "This battery characteristic can cause a smoke alarm to enter the low battery chirp mode when air temperatures drop. ... That's why the alarm may sound a low-battery chirp in the middle of the night, and then quit when the home warms up a few degrees."

    I also found out that I dont have a ladder for vaulted ceilings.....so I asked Karen to Cheerleader spot me while I climbed furniture and a crappy stepladder that I have. haha

    And this is why you do preventive maintenance once a year for battery replacement but I change mine twice a year....

    yea that's typically what I do.... I keep a calendar of household things to do (filters, HVAC service, batteries in smoke alarm, bathroom caulking etc...but I rent this house.... and I moved in 3 months ago so meh..... haha
