I agree with @Pugga. From Placid head to VT, Lake Champlain, and or green mountains. Then to the white mountains in NH. I don't know shit about Maine, but would recommend Acadia national park.

I do ~20 miles on Rt 2 daily, so I'm used to sitting in traffic with no AC! I'm just used to it. After 6 years in the Middle East and 6 years in South East Asia I won't start sweating until it hits 100*.

It's really not that bad. It's comfortable to me. Then again I couldn't sleep at night without AC... I've got one in my bedroom and one in the living room. Both built in. As soon as its above 65* outside at night I'll turn on the AC.

If you go up around Plattsburgh, that's where the Ferry goes out of to take you into Burlington. We camp on both sides of the lake, nice places on both sides. The Ferry takes about an hour and is a nice ride. From Burlington, you can go diagonally straight through VT, NH and on to Portland, or go across the north and drop south into Portland.

Make sure you time it correctly going through Boston. Otherwise, you'll get a really, really, really long look at the city from inside the tunnels of the Big Dig.
You'd either have to cross south of Ticonderoga or go north of Plattsburgh.

So are you more focused on the cities or looking for some wilderness?

I have off August 14-23. I am meeting some friends in Lake Placid on the 19th though. Maybe I need to rework my days off

Western Maine I would consider camping in Rangley, little further north, Moosehead (Greenville) Area, Acadia is nice, but full of dam tourist that time of year.

In Newhampshire I would drive through the white mountains (kangamangus highway).
I would have to glance at a map, but there are a few nice rides through NH and Vermont.

And I hate to break it to you, but Newport RI is NOT New England. More like transplanted New Yorkers play acting at some horrible twisted version of New England-ing.

Lol, not really targeting them specifically. Like I said, trout for breakfast when I'm camping is one of my favorites. So I paddled over to a spot that looked like it had potential and started fishing with trout lures (spinners and small spoons) and the Togue just happened to show up. Honestly I'd probably have been happy with White Perch too; even though they're in the bass family they still fry up ok.

Gotcha. Well I'm bringing the fly rod and some trolling gear, also some trout worms. See if I can't nab a trout to have with the eggs too!
