they want to camp by a "river" to fish

Props to whoever suggested 'Guide to California Backroads and 4-Wheel Trails', got it yesterday. Decent book. I've done some of those routes by happenstance and agree with the rating levels. I've been buying the NF maps for the areas I explore up here in nor-nor Cal, and they are quite good, if not huge. Hard to use in the truck. This book gives a nice overview and gets you a bigger picture plus some history and info on gas and mileages and times. Obviously not as detailed but still a good resource.

my guess its under 10'-15' of snow right now.

I heard Caltrans was cutting through 15-20' snow drifts to even get the pass open.

Any good roads up in the Mendocino or Plumas/Lassen area you guys recommend? I give up up hitting up places off of hwy 4 for a while. Haven't been up the to any of the aforementioned places yet actually.

Any word back on road/trail conditions for downieville to la Porte via saddleback and poker flat? Rangers weren't sure but thought poker flat to la Porte was still blocked with down trees.

Saw the snow should be knocked down on this cool map:
    https://www.fs.fed.us/r5/webmaps/SierraSnowDepth/?lat=39.4&lon=-120.55

Anyway, going to go check it out...

    And, sub'd!

I'm heading up to the TNF this Saturday to scout out a northern entry route into lake bowman since there is a blown out bridge in the southern entrance. I have PM'ed a user who has an established route in and am waiting on his response and I've also pin dropped three intersecting FS roads that lead to the lakes from hwy 49.
Im bringing my chainsaw and some tow straps to yard downed trees out of the way. Assuming I reach Bowman I'll camp there overnight and drink bourbon.
open invitation to anyone. At this point if I get stuck I don't have anyone to pull me out. I can PM the map to anybody who is interested
