    July 1st weekend.

Anyone want to come to Barnwell? Thinking about going and getting a bunkhouse... may do Friday and Saturday night, or just Saturday night.

But first weekend off so want to get a little wheeling in... may try and see if my dad will bring out his pretty stock Jeep Sahara Edition.

Think I am going to have to get another of those Baofeng handhelds... one to keep on me and one to keep inside the truck with the passenger... wonder the legalities of just one person having the license though.

    Did you get a license?

If you have GMRS license it lasts for 5 years and covers immediate family too.

If you have HAM it is just for you.

If you use a Baofeng for communication on GMRS channels you're in violation anyways.

Essentially what most people do is just get another BF and use it on GMRS, it's not an enforced law, and hopefully that restriction will be lifted in the future anyways. The main takeaway is that if you willfully cause interference with a radio you are in violation of the FCC part 95 rules. You won't be doing that (I would hope), so they aren't going to come after you.

Studying to take the test on the second Sunday in July for HAM, couldn't get to this past weekends test as I was at work.

Sooo essentially I should just get the GMRS as well just to have it on hand... but like we did at Jambo that was GMRS and since we were not interfering with other channels then it should not be an issue... and won't have blackhawks and black vans showing up on Linda Gail...

I mainly want to have another Baofeng to keep in the truck so if I have a passenger and I am spotting or going up a trail on foot... I can keep comms with them easily. Would be used just for that at like Jambo and in September for the Appalachian Round Up.

I just like the Baofeng since I have one already, I know it is going to work unlike other two ways sometimes... and the battery lasts a ridiculous amount of time.

If you get your Ham you're licensed for all the bands including GMRS, so you don't need an addition license. Also, ham is for 10 years and only cost $15 to test, so it's a much better value.

Just keep the BF, use it on GMRS, and don't sweat the licensing for what we use it for. The only real license you need to spend money on is ham, and that's for 2m, which the BF can do also.

Subsequently, I spoke to some of the guys while in Gilmer. There's a tower up there and it's up high apparnetly. It might even be the tower I saw in the park itself. Anyways, 2m with your Ham license means I could reach you anywhere in town, probably including having my Baofeng on me in Wal-Mart and you being on a trail in the park.

Will just get HAM then in that case... going to go ahead and get another BF when I can... I think I am going to go to Barnwell the first weekend of July.

Will have to test this then maybe next time we are both there.

I'm debating the Barnwell Trip. I really want to take my truck and do some easy stuff to break it in. I kinda want to go to Hidden Falls too, I'm not sure which one...

I have not been to Hidden Falls yet, but going to keep it close I think for this trip since it would be plus the lady and possibly my dad if he comes.

Oh congrats! Would have been cool to win the fridge or compressor!

I thought my luck on winning stuff has ran out after seeing I didn't win anything from that Jambo thing and from the Appalachian Toyota Round Up early registrant giveaway...

Then I won a gift card this morning to a local restaurant...

Almost, it's one side of my trailer. I repainted it Tan and am going for the 80's decals on the side. I'm making my trailer box (it's on it's side, tailgate is to the left) look like an 80's Land Cruiser.
