Sorry guys, I am only looking for 2nd Gen MPG numbers....I know the 3rd Gens are much better on gas :p

I was hoping to compare the differences between 2nd Gen pre and post facelift.

Texas hill country sounds like no faster than 65 MPH so that seems to make sense. All of my daily driving is 10 mins on the HWY at 70 MPH and 10 mins of city driving at 30-40 MPH which gets me exactly 17 MPG all the time. On long road trips I like to go 75 on the HWY if I can.

I've tried many different things to improve it, but it seems like 17-18 is the max I can get. I installed a higher air flow drop in filter, new spark plugs, fuel system/injector cleaner, and even taking the mud flaps off lol. I guess I have to live with 17 MPG with this truck. Even when I had the bed fully loaded and a 2 bike hitch rack on, I got 17 MPG.

Yeah my daily commute is about 55-60 mph. Unfortunately the 2nd gen six speeds just dont get the mileage that the autos do.. 6th gear just isnt tall enough in these trucks. im convinced a little less mpg is the price we must pay for a proper manual gearbox!

Ive only had mine a couple months and im loving it so far! My mom has an fj w/ the 6speed that has 248k miles and it still drives great, cant go wrong with a manual, just have to deal with the chirping tob on occasion

Yeah I love having a manual, theres a special feeling you get rowing through the gears, especially in a truck. I've had mine for around 5,000 miles now and had a couple TSB's done for a squeaky clutch and and slipping clutch, so I basically have a brand new clutch and pedal in mine. Hopefully it should last me a while!

I recently picked up my 17 TRD Pro with a 6spd so I thought I'd chime in here. Toyota offering a 6spd is one of the main reasons why I chose this truck. The throttle lag really takes away from the manual driving experience, but besides that I'm loving the 6spd!!

I get 17 in town but road trips (60 mph or under) I'm just under 23. I'm pleased. Using that fuel flow indicator in front of you will really help.

I drive an 18 wheeler so shifting is just plain natural for me...love the 6 speed manual...glad they brought it back.

Fuelly says I'm averaging 19. Best tank ever was 22.6.

Those numbers are about to drop.

I'm not sure how long your "road trips" are but my trips are usually 5-7 hours long, so 60 MPH on 65-70 MPH speed limit highways just is not going to cut it. And if you are talking about the gas gauge as the "fuel flow indicator", that thing is worthless with how much it fluctuates. I usually pay attention to my mileage and compare it to where the gas gauge sits, even then its still hard to predict MPG. I've considered getting a scangauge, but thats the same cost of 2.5-3 tanks of gas...I dont think I will ever save that much money with using it.

...I dont care about 3rd Gens.

"This has probably been answered somewhere in the 256 pages of threads, but what does everyone get for MPG with the 2nd gen V6 6SPD? I seem to get 17MPG no matter how I drive or if the truck is loaded or not. The best I've gotten is 19MPG on a road trip with a lot of 55 MPH driving."

Sorry, I shouldve put it in bold in my first post as a lot of people missed it. I know the 3rd Gens are better, as they should be for a brand new truck and smaller displacement engine.

Don't know. I've got a friend (actually he's a friend of a friend) with a 2nd gen manual who claims he gets better mileage than me. Maybe he's blowing smoke up my ass. :notsure:

My 2010 Taco was the 2.7L 4 with 5-speed MT- I love the fact that I have whole lot more power and get better mileage.

Hopefully the OVtune ECU tune will take care of that throttle lag.
