Since the the truck has so much negative equity he might as well stick with it for now for 18 months. Another 1 year and a half from now the value of the truck won't depreciate that much since the biggest depreciation hit already happened when he drove the truck off the lot. That will give him time to get to an equity position.

If he doesn't have the $10k sitting in the bank to offset the negative equity he is still going to be making payments on a truck he no longer has while he is driving a POS hoopty.

Paying $300 a month on a personal loan for a car you no longer have really sucks.

Back in the day everyone wanted a work truck that was easy to maintain, easy to fix and mostly reliable whether it was the 4X4 or the 4X2 crowd. In the 80's you got a bench seat, crank windows and no air. Once they became more popular people wanted more amenities, even in the entry level cars and trucks.

I agree with this. I would never mod a vehicle I didn't own. If you have extra money for mods, use it to pay off the loan. Hopefully you weren't using credit to pay for mods too.

I read it that was as well. 35k should be otd price. Not sure what a cap costs but it can't be more than a couple of thousand.

If the OP can afford the payments he might as well just keep the truck.

It will be paid off in 5 years and it will last for at least another 10-15 years easily. There are still 1st gens on the road from 20 years ago.

Just stop the mods he should be fine. If he got approved for a $800 a month truck payment he has to make decent /good money in order to fall under the 36% debt to income ratio cap all banks and credit unions have in place.

Mine was $36,233 OTD for a base TRD off road. His truck is the long bed with premium and tech package with jbl which stickers for $41k.
Add in 7% sales tax, dealer doc fee, and DMV fees it finally makes sense how the truck costed $45k OTD.
At first I thought he rolled negative equity from another car but didnt know he bought a fully loaded TRD off road not a base model one like mine.

It's loaded. P&T with JBL. No fucking way you're out the door at $35k after TTL. I paid $39k for a fully loaded OR including TTL and this was a good price. The same or cheaper than others I saw.
Still think he got "slightly" raped. Topper should add about $2000-$2500 depending on options.

My 99' tacoma has a bench seat, no power windows, no power locks, no power anything really and no cruise control! It doesn't even have a radio at the moment LOL. It does have AC though :D Simplicity to/from the trails. That's all I need.

For comfort and other things I drive my car.

Good point! Boy that would suck

BTW...I did not start modifying my truck until it was paid off. It never made sense to me to spend money on mods when I still had a vehicle loan on top of my shoulders.

Look on the bright side. Doubt you'll ever put yourself in that position again.

Yes you are right extending your loan and putting 4k down will only save you $60 per month. I am so done with forums. You are a financial genius and I'm fucking retarded. Enjoy your awesome life.:bikewheelie2:

I live in the PNW (Seattle area) and you'll have to drive 30 minutes outside of Seattle to even get a studio for $800.

I would also suggest working another job and read and listen to Dave Ramsey.

Air conditioning is a requirement in Texas. Technically you can live without it, but you will be miserable in the summer.

Drove solo across the US including TX in my 86 4X2 base with no radio or AC back in 1989, always consider it one of my life's more defining moments.
