I bumped into 2 rattlesnakes this weekend fishing. I think your bear might be a little scarier though.

Anyone else in the NE notice fishing seems to be a little tougher this year than normal? Im not sure if Im in a funk or last year's drought had that much impact on the trout population. Ive been struggling to consistently find fish this year.

The usual spots in the Sierra's, near Bishop-Mammoth area, have been pretty blown out and muddy from all of the snow melt but there are still a couple of places to catch some decent fish.

Might be a stretch but does anyone know of any potential places in southern Utah? Taking a trip to Colorado and might try and hit a few spots on the way out.

Lol. I like snakes. This past Saturday was the opening day of rattlesnake season here in PA actually. We ran into a buncha dudes out hunting them this weekend.

I got close enough to this one to poke it with a stick and that was enough for me. The smaller of the 2 we saw, I chased through the woods.

There is a town called Beaver, go up into the forest area above it and there are a few cool stream systems and some lakes. Used to fish there growing up.

    wading staffs:
If i go to buy a "wading staff", why is it more expensive than a "hiking stick" or "trekking pole"?
    They look the same.
Is it all marketing or is there actually a difference?

I was bitten by a water moccasin while in college in FL. Hate all snakes!

I'll take a black bear any day. Every one I've seen has bolted immediately upon contact.

Stuff and things that make it better.
Fished the east fork of the Sevier river a few weeks ago, it was pretty nice. Just off the road east of Kingston before Otter creek.

They stock tons of fish by me, so it's usually pretty easy fishing. The hold overs and wild trout are always tuff tho.

It's marketing. Black diamond makes a wading staff for orvis now. The foldable staffs break down to a smaller length. I don't trust the fold up staffs I have seen them collapse. I got a great deal on a used fish ponds staff. It's a trekking pole with a different handle on it.

Went to Roscoe NY last week. Over all it was a good trip had a couple days of high water after the storm monday nite. Tuesday was the only day i didn't catch any. I scouted the rivers and checked out some float trips for next time.

    @DrFunker

I think it was you that picked up that small sling or chest pack last year?? I liked that and am interested in carrying even less gear at times. Can you share?

    Have you used it?
    Like it?
