Thank you in advance for any advice here...

I have a 2006 Tacoma V6 4dr Longbed and love it. Almost 90,000 miles. The Maintenance Required light just came on and the scanner shows the following 16 error codes in the following order:

    P0300 P0171 P0172 P0174 P0175 P0037 P0038 P0057 P0058 P0100 P0102 P0103 P0125 P0128 P0335 P0420

The above error codes include: Random Misfire, System too lean and too rich Bank 1 and 2, HO2S Heater Control Circuit Low and High Bank 1&2 for only Sensor 2, Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low and High, Insufficient Coolant Temp for Closed Loop Fuel Control, Coolant Thermostat, Crankshaft Position Sensor, Catalyst System Efficiency below Threshold Bank 1

Do the above error codes look like any of the 4 O2 Sensors in particular...or mass air flow sensor. It looks like one of these parts may be bad...

    Intake 02 Sensor
    8946504290
    8946504300

Exhaust manifold Air fuel ratio O2 sensor:
    8946704020 x2

    Mass Air Flow Sensor
    2220422010

...or is there any additional way of diagnosing the exact bad part without having to pay $125+ at at a Toyota dealership. Or if I take it to an independent mechanic, what type of higher end sensor machine would they need to have to tell which exact part is needed.

    Thank you!

damn thats a whole lot o shit.

Id start with a cooling system flush n a new thermostat, those are cheap n easy to replace things, as it sounds like your thermostat might be stuck open not allowing the truck to get up to temp which will fuck all sorts of things up.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Start with cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner, checking for exhaust and intake leaks (cracked hoses, disconnected hoses, visible exhaust where it shouldn't be, etc.), and a blown fuses.

And the Maintenance Required light is for the oil change interval. It looks totally different than the CEL.

    Is you truck running fine?

If you don't have it already get yourself an OBD adapter that can hookup to a computer or phone. Look at the Coolant temp, MAF readings, O2 readings, Fuel Trims, Exhaust temps, etc. A lot of these codes can be caused from other problems. Ex: Invalid MAF readings and coolant temps can cause Rich/Lean conditions, Lean conditions can cause misfires, which can send the crankshaft position sensor haywire, etc..

First how long has the check engine light been on, a day, a week, a month, three months.

Assuming it did not wake up one morning and say let threw all these codes at once, I would say get a code reader, $20 on Amazon, clear all codes, then wait and see what come up first, its possible that one or two things are bad and if you didnt check the codes cause it was running still running fine they have made other components act up and created more codes.
I had someone come into my shop with 8 goddamn codes and said oh yeah that lights been on for a while, hopefully your smarter then that person.

The Bluetooth ELM327 adapter comes to mind, let's you see a lot more diagnostic info, and also can read/clear codes.
I hate this answer, while there is merit to it, it shouldn't be the first answer people give. I.e it's used to broadly.
He did create an account here to ask about it, so that's a plus.

Bluetooth is fine, I am merely recommending getting a scanner.
Sorry you dont like that reply, its what shops do cause it works, every now and then a code will never come back.
I hope so, I am merely giving a example of a similar experience a customer had that my shop took care of.

Thank you all for the quick replies! The check engine light is not on, just the Maintenance Required light. (Does the Maintenance Required light only mean I am overdue for an oil change?) Once I got the Maint Req light, I checked the codes and got those 16 codes. Truck is actually running good. I am getting a little bit worse gas mileage, 16-17mpg instead of 18-19mpg, but that may be minor and unrelated.

nd4spdbh - Great idea on coolant flush and swapping out Thermostat.

98tacoma27 - I'll check on all that, specifically "Start with cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner, checking for exhaust and intake leaks (cracked hoses, disconnected hoses, visible exhaust where it shouldn't be, etc.), and a blown fuses." Great call!

Sandman 614 - What a great invention. That makes you one step closer to having auto shop tools on your phone!

    Thank you!

Yeah maint required is oil change, since the check engine light isn't on it's possible they are old codes that have been dealt with, some scanners will show every code that's been logged.

"Maint Req" means you passed 5k miles on oil change interval.

    CEL looks like an engine.

If you're able reset the codes. If the truck drives fine take a ride and see what codes come back on. Having 16 different codes seems a bit extreme!

Does the check engine light come on with key on, engine off? Hopefully someone didnt pull the bulb to sell it. The maint req light is just a mileage timer to tell you an oil change is due.

Good idea, that would be super shitty for someone to pull the bulb.

FWIW I have the Veepeak Mini bluetooth scanner, $12 on Amazon, works perfectly fine paired with an app like Torque (Android). For only $12 its worth every penny IMO.

Run 1/3 can of Seafoam through the brake booster vacuum hose and clean the MAF sensor. :crapstorm:

Is it the CEL or the Maintenance Required light? If it is the Maintenance Required light, and you have changed the oil recently, you can reset it by putting in the key and turning the ignition to the "on" position and making sure the odometer is at the mileage display (not any of the trip displays), press the reset odo button and hold it down while you turn off the ignition and then turn it back to the on position (do not crank it). Wait for the -------- to clear and release the odo reset button.

Or you could just clear the codes, see which ones come back and address the most serious ones first. Also, are any of the electronics on the truck not working or working randomly? It could be a blown fuse or relay that is working intermittently.

Do paragraphs 2 and 3 first - the Seafoam is optional, I just posted it for the entertainment value of the responses that I know will come across. :duel: :deadhorse:

oh if you aint got no check engine light clear the codes (any big box auto parts stores will do it for free as well as read codes for you). Then if the CEL (not maintenance light) comes back on then immediately go get codes read to see what the first issue is and thats likely the culprit of the rest.

I missed the part that the CEL was not on. So no codes are current, all codes are just history. Lol I still said there was merit to the response but people use it too broadly, most times as a solution.
