You don't have to drink the Kool-Aid ;)

    http://virtualweberbullet.com/charcoal.html

TLDR: My message to you is this: Don't let people scare you away from briquettes, Kingsford or any other brand. They're a perfectly good product to use for making great barbecue!

    http://amazingribs.com/tips_and_technique/zen_of_charcoal.html

    TLDR:
    Bottom line
My best advice? Briqs give me consistency as well as better temp and flavor control and I'm all about control when I cook. Eliminate this variable. Pick one consistent brand of briquet, learn it, and stick with it for a year until you have all the other variables under control. The quality of the raw food, seasoning, sauce, cooking temp, and serving temp far outweigh the impact of charcoal on outcome.

I've always stayed away from the matchlight type of charcoal but beyond that, charcoal was charcoal to me.

lol this is far from "drinking the Kool-aid" @Cold Iron

Countless times products are cleared by FDA and years later.... "oh oops we did not really know at that time..."

what is good for the corporate conglomerates bottom line is good for the countries economy

after a life time of Kingsford, when liver cancer becomes more and more prevalent... lets see if the clorox company pays restitution like big tobacco

Yup. Just find what you like, stick with it so you can get consistent, and tune out all the other noise. The more you look for answers, the more opinions you'll find.

I used to be able to get Stubbs at my local Wally World but they don't carry it anymore. It was everywhere and now it's gone.:(

lol my competition!!! though it is a lot better than the kingsford, i tend to find it sparks more than other lump natural brands and the heat is just not as strong.

but clearly better than that borax mess

mats, flaps, and stickers. Extang solid fold 2.0. Mobtown sliders and full skids. AVS vents
And we're off with the charcoal debate again.

4 of the members on here who live close enough together should do a test for all of us... one using lump, one using KF Blue, one using Stubbs, and one using KF Pro. All 4 cook a pork butt with same rub and have a blind taste test with relatives. Tally the votes, and put an end to this shite.
