    Looks like pine to me. Sand first? What color/brand stain? Condition the wood first? wipe with clean rag? Funny this came up as I am refinishing a very old red oak floor this week.

    i sanded with 1200 before stain and after grain rise i cant remember the type of wood and stain poly blend by Varathane

    poly blend stain and seal all in one? If so that's your problem. Shit sucks 1200 grit or 120? 1200 is super fine

    the thing about the stain and seal is that it is a one time deal. If you try a second coat it will not stain properly as it has been sealed. If you try it will become splotchy. If this is the way you went sand it all down again and then stain to your liking (no sanding) wiping thourghly immediately after staining. Then seal with a poly, then sand grain rise with a 220 and seal again and again. You shouldn't have to sand again after the rise.

    shouldn't be too bad. The key to staining is "Less is more" meaning easier to get it darker by multiple coats. Also don't use a brush whe applying the stain use a rag or a sponge applicator.
