sunoco gasoline

i used sunoco this past weekend and saw a +1.5 mpg increase in one tank. now i thought this mightve been only because i drove for an extended period of time at highway speeds. however, i spoke to a coworker who recently used sunoco (he drives a ...dodge nitro) and he said that he, too, saw an increase in milage

im just curious if anyone here uses sunoco regularly and if they also saw an increase

 

good point about the ethanol-- didnt think about that. i got it in philly, so i dont know if its mandatory like it is in de.

 

ethanol reduces mileage, it has about 2/3 the amount of energy of gasoline...its the way you drove dude...ive tracked different brands of gasoline on over 150 fillups (so my data has a wide sample) and the biggest difference between stations i saw was 0.2 MPGs...

 

Sunoco, doesn't have their own refinery, they buy the gas from everyone else! Not too crazy about the only cool thing they have is the octane 94 which I dont need!... I think BP and Shell are the best... Shell is always a bit more expensive thou, both seems to work well on my truck!

 

speaking of shell: is their nitrogen--enriched, plutonium ion, al gore fart or whatever-they-call-it gas really that much better??

 

^ true, but it really doesnt matter, all refineries make gas to the federal standard, the only real difference is the additives they put in. also, are those refineries feeding the OP's stations in delaware specifically? if not, he is most likely getting gas refined at other places, so he was halfway right!

 

the nitrogen comes from the ethanol....nothing special about it!

 

^ interesting. i currently work for several refineries in socal and they all pump into general pipelines or sell/buy gas in locations where they do not have refineries.

so is sunoco the only one that does this?

well, I should start over again... Sunoco, does not drill oil! The can refine... all the oil is bought for! How's that?

 

I can duplicate ~1mpg loss just by running gas from any station in my town besides one specific Exxon and I'm pretty serious about tracking my mileage and driving style. I talked to the manager at that Exxon and he advised his gas has "less than 3% ethanol." I asked about the curious phrasing and he said he has to say it that way in case they get a bit mixed in but their normal gas has none or close to no ethanol in it. Makes a noticeable difference in MPG for my truck.

 

i use citgo gas and they have 0 percent ethanol in it .

 

Gas can make a difference. In the 1970's, Sunoco 260 was "THE" fuel to use if you had a high-compression muscle car (other than av fuel). They had the huge see-through filters on the side. Isn't our V6's hi-comp engines? I don't have my manual handy, but I think the correct octane value is higher than regular fuel. I'm sure there is a huge discussion somewhere here about all that.

If I could find Sunoco's more often where I live, I'd still be using them on a regular basis, as long as it wasn't outrageously priced. I never use Exxon, I usually go to BP now and I get about 21.x if I pay attention to my driving. Of course my wife has a hybrid and I can squeeze 48-51 miles out of a gallon while driving that!

I just added a ARE top, so I'm interested in seeing the difference.

 

I like those wheels, what are they? Do you have another photo of them? I'm asking because I'm thinking of going black with my sand-colored '08.

 

I would be thrilled to have a Sunoco, Shell or Chevron in my town... all I have is an Exxon, a Sheetz and a bunch of corner stores with crap gas. Sucks!

I used to go through there from Fayetteville to Raleigh, down Hwy 401 - a long time ago. Wasn't much to it. I figured by now Raleigh had swallowed you up.

 

What no one should buy from citgo. That is communist gas. That pays that bitch Chavez that hates America and wants to see us all wiped away.

 

Not yet... Cary and Holly Springs will get here first! We've got about 10,000 people in and around the area. If you head north of 401 toward Holly Springs you only get about 5 miles of residential separation between the towns and there's no more empty land between the two at all.
