Doesn't Toyota paint the bodies prior to glass & assembly install?

Did you buy your truck new?

I would think so, just doesn't make sense not to. Why spend resources taping a window, when you can put it in after.

Agree & (for me) would be of some concern due indication of possible damage prior to purchase...???

Seems to have made a difference in shorter drives around town. I need to take a longer trip to be certain. We're busy putting our home on the market and getting ready to move, so time is of the essence in making that happen.

Sorry for the long delay. We've been moving, and are finally settled in. On the long trip here, the outside temperature indication still varied widely. My wife's car said it was 59 - my Tacoma said it was 95. Her car was right. So, still a big difference, despite relocating the sensor away from any heat source in the engine bay. Rats.

    Maybe it's dyslexic? :notsure:

But because it is so off I would definitely take it back have them figure out what the underlying issue is.

That certainly went through my mind! And yes, back to the dealer for further analysis.....

I have the same issue. 2016 TRD OR w/ tow package. The dealer is replacing it as I type this. The service manager came in and explained that it sits right next to the power steering fluid cooler as you all have discussed. He says if it doesn't fix the issue for me to come back and they will contact Toyota officially with the issue. He says he wouldn't be surprised if a service bullitin came out with a fix of some kind, as he's read of this issue at other locations with the tow package.

The only thing I could think of is to isolate it from heat sources with a heat shield, or move it an area that doesn't require that. Just sick of seeing it say 110F after I take a long trip then hop back in a few mins later to go grab food or something, when it is actually 75F and breezy outside!

    LS1 swap with nitros.
Trucks are painted before the windows, trim, etc are installed. If you have overspray on things, it is either something other than paint or your truck has been violated in some manner. It is not common, but possible, to have damage occur during delivery and prior to sale, even when new.

Sorry to hear that you have the same issue - and thanks for letting me know of your experience. I hope there is a TSB out that resolves the issue - soon! Still having this problem...

This isn't Tacoma related but it's something I'm dealing with at work... I'm a tech and I've been chasing down a mis-reading outside temp sensor problem for the past 3 days. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, finally figured it out today! The car had a leaking battery at some point and the acid got down under the battery tray. Eventually it corroded thru one of the wiring harnesses under the tray and shorted out the ambient temp circuit to the brake light circuit, so every time you hit the brakes the temp drops way down into the teens! Been losing my mind on that one! Literally losing sleep. Haha
