Agreed. I'd happily pay more for a good mass transit system so that we could remove drivers from the road who aren't up to par. Sadly, we'll never see either happen

 

When I got my license (2006 I think) I didn't have to parallel park, just back up 30 feet next to a curb without touching the curb.

 

Most days I wish I had crap truck to park next to people that do this, but I don't so I drive my happy butt to the back of the lot =(

 

I got mine in 08 in PA, parallel parking was part of the test. Most people learned it for the test and then promptly forgot it.

And btw, the last time I tested was in 1969. Motorcycle add in 1987. Since then, just renewals.

 

They have that one commercial where the girl drifts into the next lane where a motorcycle was in. She said mom I got it. I would of snapped if that was me on the bike

 

Oh, I had to stop wearing my "company clothes" on my motorcycle because I can't get from my house to work without flipping off at least one person for almost killing because their head is up their ass

 

I think this also one of the reasons I don't carry. Too many dead bodies would be around my bike, the police would frown upon that

 

LMAO. My biggest issue is that everyone is to busy texting while driving and doing so they can't use the blinkers two thing that pisses me off. I drive 12hr a day for work. It was worse when I drove tractor trailers. I'm glad I don't do that anymore

 

I remember my Grandmother got a Florida license renewed for 7 years with an eye test at 85. She voluntarily gave driving up at 89, she lived to be 94.

Oh no. My FIL (in his 80s) refuses to put his CC number into any website. He view the product, get the info, write down the item number etc, then call the company and tell them his CC number over the phone...

 

You could try explaining encryption versus the human factor but, yeah, nevermind

 

It's so hard to resist quoting people who post pics of their rigs from elsewhere on this forum who are trying to show them off, taking up 3-4 parking spaces...

Generally agree except for TPMS. I've had that system alert me to a problem while on the highway, well before even the most attentive driver would feel the difference. Allowed me to get to a much safer spot to address the puncture than otherwise.

Most of these various gadgets are double-edged as you note. Like TPMS; while it serves a true safety purpose it also becomes a crutch for people who don't ever glance at their tires. Still, many of those still never looked at their tires before TPMS, so at least they're less likely to have a blowout on the highway and swerve into me.

Blindspot monitor. I'm adamant that proper mirror aim eliminates your blindspots. Yet it has come in handy when I'm trying to back out of a parking spot at home depot where a couple panel vans have pulled up on either side and some other dickwad is flying down the aisle. Why didn't I back into the spot? Ever load a bunch of lumber or molding into your truck bed while backed in?

 

Not a bad idea right there.

 

I live in Austin and damn I hate the ass-in parking on Congress. You have to go passed the spot to then back in which causes a traffic headache. At least with nose first I could see reverse lights on someone backing out.

So much this. I have lived all over Austin but 3 years ago I bought a house on the east side. If you think Austin drivers are bad you need to come east. A Whole new level of IDGAF drivers.

Last note: My biggest pet peeve with society is general awareness, not just driving awareness. People are oblivious to everything around them. Driving or otherwise.
