Is it possible to view google maps on the truck display? I don't have the navigation option. I saw an app called "scout" but it had bad reviews.

You can buy something from beatsonics that mirrors your smartphone's screen, so you could run Google maps on your stock HU. Price of entry is a bit high $250

That's cool, you still need to get the signal to the HU tho right?

I haven't tried it yet. I am out of town this week and my truck is 3000 miles away. Will attempt to aggravate myself on Monday.

Don't waste your time with this app. It does not do anything useful if you do not have an android auto head unit. Basically it just functions as a place to organize various app such as Pandora, Google maps, etc. and you open the auto app and they are all there. I tried it for a week and during that time my battery ran down faster than normal, so I deleted the app and now my battery life is back to normal.
In your situation I would get a tablet and you can either get data from you cell provider or you can tether off your phone(kinda a pain to do every time) then run google maps on the tablet. A nice ram mount for the tablet, and connect the audio to your head unit and done.

A magnet smart phone mount is the cheapest and best view I've found thus far. It holds good, does not block any vents, and you don't leave any damage or marks if you ever get rid of the vehicle.
Less than $10 paid for mine, you'll have look thru Amazon to find one to suit as mine is no longer available but others are.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
