That sucks man, sorry to hear that. What more are you trying to do to your trailer build?

Im kinda in the same shoes, my step dad is a fabricator and has all the tools i need to build the trailer. Then an old high school friend has everything to cut, bend, and weld an aluminum box for the trailer. I want to keep the weight down as much as possible so i will try to build as much as i can out of aluminum.

I'd love to build an aluminum box. My trailer is an old M416, the previous owner had a steel lid made for it with the RTT rack The weight of the lid and tent is starting to split the lower box, so I've got to do something about it.

I want to build a sub frame extension and have the tent rack raise and lower the tent while getting that weight off the lid at the same time. I'd also like to replace the pintle with a lock and roll or similar type hitch.

Man that would be intense! I'm not sure how we'll be fishing for them, my understanding is they're pretty heavily regulated since they're protected in that part of the world.

I hadn't planned on making it out there for my summer trip but I keep thinking maybe I should change it up. I was sad to miss Overland west this year, I may have to make that happen in 2018!

I originally wanted to make the mount out of plexiglas or some type of lexan, but that was going to be expensive to get it in the size I needed... so... Lowe's to the rescue lol

Man, I need more time lol there's so much I want to see and do in the American West.

I got lucky I had some leftover bed liner to use to make the wood look decent, and got a little bit more of my money's worth out of that damn hole saw for the snorkel

Overland expo was fun! I'll be going next year again. Next year I'm going to set more time to go wheeling in the area and spend less time at the actual expo.

So you would say stay away from the pintle hook and go with a lock and roll huh?? I have experience with the pintle hook in the military, it worked great for me, what are your problems with it?

It works great, it's just noisy as all hell, and the pintle hitch receiver is heavy as eff since it has to drop down so low so it's a bit of a pain to hook up and take down. I bet I could alleviate some of that if I went spring over axle on the trailer to raise the tongue up some and cut out some of the weight of the drop hitch.
