Seems unlikely that it would fail, and even if so I would hope it would send some sort of malfunction light.

That's what I figured. As AT fluid check is part of the diagnostic, I'm good to go.

Now give me about 5 minutes of skimming threads and I'll find something else to worry about.

But you can check it at home without a techstream, using the fluid temp detection mode. The amount of people who give false information who have never worked a day in their life as a dealer tech is astounding.

Yup, easy to do on the driveway early AM. Just get the temp up after setting in diagnostic mode for the trans, and go from there. The manual is easy to follow without a tech stream. Takes about an hour or less. Don't even need a jack unless your beer belly gets in the way.

Can we at least agree it's easier to check your truck's ATF with a dipstick than wasting an hour or more in the morning?

standard service dealer fluid checks for 5000/10000 maintenance, for things with
    no visible fill level

    are: on the cheap

-look at the seams, seals, bolts for any component holding fluid

if no leaks or smears seen, passes check.

-if leaks seen, then they will actually check the level in [part]

otherwise they will charge extra labor for opening something up and checking level
if it has no external evidence of leak.

auto tranny is extra special it requires a specific procedure to set the vehicle up correctly,
then open a 'glory hole' (overflow hole) and note what oozes out, if anything. that takes $$$ time

Making derogatory comments toward a member and specifically calling out their name probably counts.
