I have 176,000 miles on my original OEM clutch
I have not towed much with it.
I know the life of a clutch depends a lot on how you drive it.
How much can I expect before replacing it?

213k so far on my 1998. Just replaced original drive belts. Love Toyota. I'm curious too, what is the average life span of a clutch under normal use.

I had mine replaced with a Marlin HD clutch at around 150k miles. I was hoping it would help fix the chatter, but it still chatters some when I am slipping the clutch anywhere below 1500rpm. 1500 or above and it's fine, no chatter.

Crazy how many miles people seem to get on these 1st gen clutches. On my scion, it had to be replaced every 90-100k. It was also cheaper, dealer wanted nearly $3k to do one on my Tacoma. Trans shop was much better.

So how many miles did you have on that clutch?

Its a long story lol. Basically the clutch was fine but the throwout bearing was chirping bad, and to replace that you have to take the trans out and clutch apart. So I decided to just do the whole thing. The clutch only had maybe 30k miles on it but the throwout bearing is notorious for going bad on these trucks. The new one started chirping 10k miles later though. The noise is annoying but its rare to have one actually fail. Fingers crossed anyhow.

As long as you don`t let anyone else drive your truck !!!!

It could make it to 1/4 million miles

My family has a stock 1999 V6 SR5 Extra-Cab 4x4 with 168,xxx miles on the original clutch. It has done some towing, but our little Boston Whaler with its trailer is significantly less than 2,000 pounds.

I replaced clutch at 260k not because it started to slip but because the metal lever pushed by slave cracked. The clutch itself still had some life in it. I changed it because in order to replace that cracked lever the assembly had to be open so all the labor had to be done anyway.

Replaced the clutch on my 97 (may she rest in peace) around 130k, but that's because I got ahold of it with 62k and learned stick on it...in the mountains of NC.

I learned that every stop sign and traffic light in my town was uphill.

I hadn't had her a month when I rolled up to a slight accident on an uphill stretch of a twisting and winding road where a girl had slid off the road due to the snowstorm the night before. I was in 4 wheel drive, 19 years old and feeling like tough shit... "need any help?..." She said a tow truck was on its way. I said, "okay," and then proceeded to pull away up the steep hill. I couldn't get going at all, and I was freaking out because I had zero power. I start smelling something terrible, but I finally got moving and rolled away. Then I looked down and realized... I was in third gear.

My clutch aged 100k miles in five minutes.

Lol, I feel that way after some offroading trips I go on. When you're climbing rocky shelves on steep inclines in 4lo you get familiar with that 'smell' from time to time.

161,500 on my 2004. It's never towed anything and has been pretty much babied it's entire life. I off road it but nothing you could even consider "extreme". It still works fine.

Yes. I bought it in December 2001 with 100 miles (from test drives) on it.

I am easy on my truck. I do not do a lot of off-roading, and don't tow anything. Plus, most of the miles are highway.

None yet, but I have plans....
2002 w/ 2.7L 4WD. Some towing (Harley) some yard work (Couple loads of gravel and dirt), some 4 wheeling pig hunting or fishing. 231,000 + miles on the original clutch. When it indicates the need for a new clutch, will turn the flywheel and install on OE Aisin clutch kit $174.00 from Rock Auto. Do not look forward to dropping the Tranny/Transfer case in the driveway.....
