I have had my 2017 TRD PRO MT for six months now.

Here is what I couldn't get use to:

    1. Sound System
    Annoyance Level: 10/10
The OEM sound system really sucks! I can accept the JBL sound system on my wife's 2014 Baja but the one on my 2017 it's just awful. I already purchased the OEM+ kit and I will get it installed this Saturday. I just don't get it why Toyota couldn't install a better system on the TRD PRO.

    2. Wheels / I need opinions here
    Annoyance Level: 5/10
Personally I'm not big fun of the new wheels. I have upgraded the tires to BFG 275/70/60 with no rubbing at all but I still have some reservations.

Would you replace the TRD wheels with SCS F5's (Matte GunMetal)?

    3. Exhaust Sound.
    Annoyance Level: 9/10
My truck sounds like a minivan. Period! I find myself borrowing my wife truck just to hear the deep sound made by default exhaust on her Baja. I went to lunch with a friend and even he told me that my truck sound like a regular car. I already upgraded the intake with a TRD intake but it didn't make any difference. I was told that I will get used to it and that I have to give it some time but it doesn't work. I really want something with deep sound that will make me feel that I'm driving a MT transmission. I don't want to be really loud, I would like something balanced that will feel good at low speed and high speed without any drone effect.
I was looking at BORLA kit but of course their kit is only available for AT. WTF! I have considered Magnaflow but that's a little bit too much plus a lot of people are complaining about drone at highway speed.
Do you guys have any suggestions? Please help!

I have also attached a couple of pictures with my BFG tires 275/70/60 for someone that might be interested to go with bigger tires. I don't have any rubbing when I take my truck off-road.

I have the OEM AUDIO system and you will not be disappointed. I'm sure once you get the wheels and tires you want, you could sell those quickly. As for the exhaust sound, it's all personal preference.

I guess I'm getting too old but I just have a regular sound system in my OR and I'm good with it. I used to be all into audio like Focal, Brax, etc but lost interest. Wife's $50k Acura MDX with Tech package doesn't sound any better than what I have now.

Wheels I like em so you'll be able to flip those quick too.

Why does the Borla only work for autos? Perhaps they didn't test it so they are just saying "autos" only. Maybe contact them direct to confirm. You'll sell the Pro exhaust easily.

    :rofl::popcorn:

Well it is a minivan motor so it makes sense that our trucks sound like a minivan.

As for the JBL system mine actually sounds pretty damn good. It is one of the few things I actually like about this truck and I used to run aftermarket systems in most of my vehicles. Maybe something is wrong with yours?

#1 reason I did not buy they pro is the audio system lol, Might sound silly to some but I love how balanced the the JBL system sounds and its all factory. I would look into the OEM audio plus upgrade seems to satisfy peoples needs.

Just find a stock tacoma exhaust not from a pro or trade someone. I have never heard a good exhaust note from the v6.

Pro does not have the JBL option, so I bought a truck that had the option.

    Working on it.
I think the audio system is great! Now I am coming from a wrx where it had one of the worst audio systems I have heard in any car I have ever sat in. The audio system is clear and clean at high volume and with the equalizer I can set it up so that it sounds good to my ear. I am no audiophile but it sounds better than my VW and that was my best oe audio I had owned prior. I think trd exhaust sounds good as well a little rumble under load but quiet at speed and no drone. Some folks have modified their exhaust to get more rumble/noise but I had enough of that in my wrx. I enjoy holding a conversation with out yelling at my passengers. The part I agree with is the wheels. The gloss black wheels really irked me when all the other black components on the vehicle are matte. The tires also suck off road. A wheel and tire swap fixed that but it would have been nice if the truck came with a better setup stock.

I'm throwing a few grand at it to replace the sound system. phase one done, phase two tomorrow - installing an AVIC-8200 and idata maestro, and the sub in a couple weeks. no use complaining unless you do something about it.

i kept the OE wheels for resale but got FN Six Shooters and put some 265/65-17 Cooper ST Maxx E tires on it and i can't say enough good about this setup, i love it. looks great, too.

also, cus I'm a driving enthusiast, i got some SPC UCA's and now run a higher caster alignment that takes the truck's handling to a different planet from stock. there's some other details too.

i can't say i have a problem with the exhaust, but I'm also looking to update the tune soon, so maybe it's a better time to evaluate that after the tune is installed, speaking for myself.

and a badass shift knob always helps every time.

so, do you like the Pro or not?

That's what I was looking for! I like my TRD PRO but I will LOVE IT as soon as I will do some TLC on it.

I came from a car that had a Burmester sound system and the audio in the pro is severely lacking. Later on I may add the OEM+ that might help

The truck looks great. That's the tire I am going to replace the stocks with when the time comes. They are D load range correct?

Sounds like you didn't go the smart route and get a TRD OR w/jbl and build it like a man.

Being a man would entail building the stereo to meet your needs. JBL is junk too.
