Let's assume the 285's don't rub (a debated topic). Which look do you like best ?

285 cause if you're asking about looks, 285 will get the bro's to get a hard on.

really though, 285 would be better either way since its a taller tire so better ground clearance

As far as wheel travel though, which is more important?

285 is the width, has nothing to do with gaining more height.

    looks are subjective.

You are also referring to two different width tires. 265 vs 285.

If it was my ride AND 285's fit with no modification, I would get the 285/75/16 because i want to actually be able to off road without having to worry too much about dinging up my wheels. Now if you roll 285/70/17 you could still off road, but the wheel is more prone to rash/bash depending on how hard you off-road. Prob would want at least a 35" on a 17in wheel if you wheel hard to save wheels.

I dont care what anyone else thinks about how my ride looks. If I like it, thats all that matters. Im more of a function vs looks person when it comes to my truck though.

If you are looking for attention vs function you might as well go all in and get mall crawler worthy 20in wheels.

Let's add functionality... so considering looks, ride, clearance, etc, which would you prefer ?

not sure i understand what u are asking here. wheel width is limited by suspension geometry, diameter doesnt really impact suspension travel
still would pick 285/75/16 IF they fit without modification, but since they dont, I prob will go with 265/75/16 on a 16x8 4.5 back space wheel once these stockers wear out and just level the truck.

    except 285, was short for 285 75 16, which is a 33" tire vs the 265 70 17, which is a 31.8" tire.
    So like I said above.

285 because it will get you more ground clearance.
Unless you want to argue that a 33 doesn't net more ground clearance compared to a 31, in which case I have better things to do right now than waste my time on stupidity.

I know it's a second gen, but these are the exact sizes you're asking about. Pics speak for themselves.

    bigger is always better.
Unless its a tumor, or supercharger pulley.
In which smaller is always better.

Going with a 3 inch OME lift here pretty soon and you have made up my mind of what size tires to get. Awesome looking rig

Yes but bigger what...? If you have kickass wheels, wouldn't you like to see more wheel than tire ?

Let's say you had the option for the stocker 16" TRD Tacoma Pro wheels, or the 17" TRD Pro 4 runner wheels

you're asking the wrong person dude.
I'm not a bro nor trying to be one. I don't have KO2s like the tires you probably want.
I care about function and thats it.

I have Konig six shooters, 17s. they already have a few scuffs on them from rocks off road. I give 0 fucks as I bought them because I wanted something light, weight was my main concern, then looks.

I'd rather more tire since I want more ground clearance. If I want big rims and low pro tires I'll drive my jetta.
Truck is for offroading and camping.

if you never go off road and don't plan on turning full lock yes.
Otherwise no, needs a cab mount chop.
